Our diverse multidisciplinary acute medicine team currently consists of nurses, advanced clinical practitioners, physician assistants, advanced nurse practitioners, junior doctors, pharmacy, therapies, clerical staff, managers and consultants. There is a dedicated Acute Medical Unit (AMU) for acute and general medical patients - with assessment areas, a short stay inpatient area. The team also runs the Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) Unit, which has outpatient and trolley-based areas for assessment and treatment. In addition, the team work alongside other clinicians managing patients referred to and under medicine within the emergency department. This post is fixed term/secondment for 12 months to cover maternity leave. They will have significant autonomy to act independently, with the supervising doctor available for consultation. The PA will support the specialist trainees/clinical fellows/resident doctors/Advanced Nurse Practitioners/Advanced Clinical Practitioners in the delivery of high-quality care to patients in acute medicine. The PA will have been trained to exercise autonomy in medical decision-making. The post holder will be required to, within their scope of professional practice: - Formulate a differential diagnosis based on history and physical examination. - Develop and deliver appropriate treatment and management plans on behalf of the supervising physician. - Perform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. - Request and interpret diagnostic studies. The PA will be aware of the limits of their competence and committed to acting within these limits. They will be highly skilled at working in a multi-professional team environment, and, as a life-long learner, engage in active professional development.
