### Job overview

This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing team of Physician Associates providing care for patients under Plastic Surgery

### Main duties of the job

The post holder will be required to provide assistance to the Consultant Surgeons and Specialist Registrars in the provision of high quality care within the department. They will be expected to participate in all aspects of the patient pathway as appropriate and to perform  duties with a high degree of clinical skill and knowledge, working within operating theatres, wards and outpatient clinics.

The post holder will assess and examine patients, present them, initiate and interpret investigations, and recommend treatment. They will be expected to liaise with other professionals and specialities as required and complete necessary documentation relating to their patients.

They will be supervised by a designated consultant of the week and will also have individual mentors to overview their career development.

It is expected that the Physician Associates will become involved in the activities of the department, including review of inpatients, assessment of acute admissions, audits, practical procedures, theatres and outpatient clinics.

## Person Specification

### Knowledge

**Essential**

- Awareness of current developments and initiatives in medicine.
- Knowledge of medical procedures and terminology.
- Verbal and written communication skills.

**Desirable**

- Additional competencies

### Experience

**Essential**

- Clinical training and experience in general medicine
- Experience of working in an acute and demanding clinical setting.
- Ability to work cohesively within the multi-disciplinary team.

**Desirable**

- Demonstrate interest in Plastic Surgery.
- Experience of designing audit/projects and research.

### Qualifications

**Essential**

- BA/BS Degree prior to undertaking PA program
- PG Dip/Masters in Physician Associate Studies from a UK training programme
- Current and valid certification by the Physician Associate National Examination
- GMC registration / PAMVR at the time of commencing the post

**Desirable**

- ILS/ALS certification
