The University of Sheffield MPharm opened in September 2025. We have an exciting opportunity for a dynamic and knowledgeable clinical pharmacist to join the team as a clinical educator (teacher-practitioner), alongside a role in clinical practice at Sheffield Health Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust (SHPU).  At SHPU we treat adults in Sheffield and use services that support with mental health, learning disabilities, autism, or dementia. This organisation provides a range of specialist NHS services covering these areas of health and more.

This joint role offers an opportunity for continuing in clinical practice whilst developing the workforce of the future and contributing to the delivery of the undergraduate MPharm degree. The postholder will be substantively appointed by SHPU with an annualised agreement for 2 days working at the University of Sheffield.

The postholder will be involved in the design, development and delivery of high-quality clinical practice-based teaching across a variety of therapeutic disease states using evidence-based practice, with a focus on mental health conditions. This postholder will also be required to contribute to the assessment of students using OSCEs, written assessments and portfolios alongside academic tutoring and professional mentorship.

It is essential for candidates to have excellent communication skills, and an ability to work alongside colleagues to develop the curriculum within the team.

- Develop deliver and assess practice and clinical teaching within the MPharm programme.
- As part of the pharmacy service, to ensure the safe and effective use of medicines throughout the Trust.
- To deliver specialist information and expert advice to all members of the multidisciplinary team to maximise patient pharmaceutical care ensure that medicines are prescribed, administered and supplied in a safe, effective and economic manner and to reduce harm caused by medication errors.
- To provide direct supervision and training to clinical pharmacy staff, develop and provide training regarding the use of medicines and medicines governance principles to clinical staff, non-clinical staff, service users and carers.
- To support the Chief Pharmacist in the delivery of all aspects of the Pharmacy Service.
- Working in a multi-disciplinary team to ensure a holistic service is offered.
- Participation in, and provision of, systems of clinical supervision and peer support.
- Oversee the training for undergraduate pharmacists within the trust.

University Of Sheffield:

- Work with the Pharmacy team and the Head of Pharmacy Practice to design, develop deliver and assess practice and clinical teaching within the MPharm programme ensuring that it is accessible, inclusive and contributes to the University’s Teaching and Learning Strategy.
- Develop and review assessments in relation to their area of teaching and be involved in associated quality assurance, delivery, marking and feedback.
- Support individual MPharm students in the role as professional mentor and academic tutor.
- Contribute to the development, co-ordination and quality assurance of experiential learning (placements) within the MPharm and at SHPU.
- Supervise student projects as appropriate
- Participate in School admissions and outreach activities which may involve activities outside of standard working hours, for example weekend open and interview days.
- Behave ethically in all aspects of your role and act as a role-model for MPharm students.
- Work according to University quality assurance processes and other regulatory frameworks including Professional Regulatory bodies e.g. GPhC.
- Carry out other duties, commensurate with the grade and remit of the post.
- Undertake continuing professional development activities for development as a teaching focused academic SHPU:
- Responsibility for clinical and other checks within the dispensary and in clinical settings (inpatient and community).
- Responsibility to act as a pharmacist for the purposes of the 2012 Human Medicines regulations and other statutory instruments.
- Develop and maintain relationships within a multidisciplinary team environment in order to ensure service user’s care plans, reflect the best use of pharmacological treatments.
- Assist and where appropriate take a lead in supporting designated multidisciplinary teams develop safe and effective medicines related practice.
- Participate in the departmental drug information systems and answer queries resulting from drug use within the Trust.
- Work with individual service users, carers or groups or to help achieve best outcomes from pharmacological treatments.
