### Job overview

As a Senior Trust Grade in Paediatric Emergency Medicine (PEM) you will have the opportunity to work alongside experts in in one of the busiest emergency departments in the UK.

The Leicester Royal Infirmary has the only Emergency Department serving the city of Leicester and the counties of Leicestershire and Rutland and is one of the busiest in the country, treating over 60,000 new patients. The ED incorporates:

12 Resuscitation bays

Separate Paediatric ED with 12 rooms and 8 bays

12 bed Childrens Short Stay Unit

You will be provided with lots of personal developmental support, including:

A clinical and education supervisor

Designated study days and access to Teaching Programmes specifically designed to equip you with the tools for PEM as well as opportunities to attend other established training courses

### Main duties of the job

Clinically you will be expected to maintain a high standard of clinical care for patients and their families attending the department.  Working at middle grade level with direct consultant support on the clinical floor it would be anticipated you clerk patients in order of clinical priority, make and initiate management plans. You will be expected to support the  junior doctors, Foundation Year level 2 and Junior Trust Grade equivalents, in their decision making and management of patients.

To be successful in this position you need to have a minimum of 6 months experience in an Emergency setting. We are looking for someone who will demonstrate a positive attitude and will work well within a team, while also having the ability to use their initiative. The Emergency department is a very fast paced, busy environment so the ideal candidate should be able to work under pressure with the support of their peers.

To work as one team providing a safe, modern, efficient and effective Emergency Medicine service to the Leicester Royal Infirmary, University Hospitals of Leicester (UHL) NHS Trust; and to deliver the highest quality of emergency care to the population of Leicester and the surrounding county (catchment population around 1 million).

. The main duties and responsibilities of this post are to:

- Carry out initial assessments, investigations and manage patients in the Childrens Emergency Department

- Supervise junior trust grade doctors clinically in the department

- Participate in teaching for junior medical staff and nursing staff

- Admit and discharge patients safely from the Childrens Emergency Department

- Ensure a safe and high standard of care of all patients in the Childrens Emergency Department

- Work flexibility between all areas of the department.

- Participate in the running of the department.

### Experience

**Essential**

- - Will have completed ST4+ or equivalent experience or Post CCT
