Patient Access Clerk - Band 2 - Division of Medicine, Welcome Centre - Bristol Royal Infirmary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Patient Access Clerk to join the team based at the Bristol Royal Infirmary part of the University Hospital Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust.

We are looking for an exceptional individual to join our small team providing Administrative and Clerical duties to University Hospitals Bristol 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, this includes bank holidays such as Christmas day and Boxing day.

The post holder will have excellent organisational skills with a keen eye for detail and be able to demonstrate exceptional customer service and communication skills.

The successful candidate must be able to work under pressure in a complex environment, be able to demonstrate experience of team and lone working, working to deadlines and have excellent IT skills (including Microsoft Word, Excel and Microsoft Outlook).

Previous NHS or hospital experience would be an advantage although full training will be provided to the successful candidate.

### Main duties of the job

- To be capable of handling an enquiry from patients & other staff who are displaying challenging behaviour during distressing times showing empathy.
- To be able to handle sensitive verbal and written information in a confidential and professional manner ensuring clear attention to details.
- Locating and delivering medical records from medical records department or other departments within the BRI site for all medical elective admissions. Also for all emergency admission requests received from wards.
- To pre admit patients to the hospitals critical care departments in order to allow for patients records to be uploaded and started prior to the patient arriving at the hospital.
- To support the emailing/posting of discharge summaries for patients discharged from the hospital for GP practices who don’t have access to the Clinical Document Service or where the GP have been entered as Unknown.
- To become the communication hub and main point of contact for all patient movement during PAS downtime reverting to other electronic/paper records of patient movements for all hospitals within Trust. Then uploading the information when PAS returns.
- Provide clerical support to the clinical site management team.
