An opportunity has arisen at the Samuel Johnson Community Hospital for a Pathway Team Leader (Medical Secretary) within the Staffordshire Community Secretaries.

The Pathway Team Leader will provide an efficient Medical Secretarial service to the Consultants and their team in respect of NHS work, working flexibly with or alongside other medical secretarial staff, Consultants and their teams and other teams as required. Day to day management of secretarial staff will also be required as part of this role, ensuring the smooth running of the Patient Pathway.

### Main duties of the job

To act as the primary point of contact for patients and medical staff on behalf of the Consultant and their team ensuring that all queries are answered with skill, sensitivity and in a courteous and professional manner.

Typing and dispatch of clinical correspondence related to NHS medical patients within agreed timescales and quality standards.

Ensure that urgent test results/correspondence is brought to the immediate attention of the Consultant or his/her team.

An understanding of the 18-week RTT process and a knowledge of the Trust Patient Access Policy and an agreement to adhered to these policies according to National Trust Guidelines.

Accurately informing patients/clinicians of outcomes and information to influence the effective service delivery for all patients.

Day to day management: initial stages of grievance and discipline; appraisal, acting as an appointment panel member; ensuring that appropriate training is delivered to staff; reviewing work performance and progress; work allocation and checking.

Approves and records annual leave ensuring the secretarial cover is adequate to continue delivering the service.

Ensure all staff mandatory training is up to date and can relay accurate reports to the management team.

Undertake own necessary training as and when required by the Trust.

Escalate any urgent problems to a senior manager within a timely manner.
