An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Parkinson’s Disease Specialist Nurse. In this challenging and rewarding role you will be providing a quality service to people living with Parkinson’s Disease from the time of diagnosis until the end of life.

As a proactive individual with advanced communication skills, you will be working with Parkinson’s Disease patients and their carers and with the multi-disciplinary team based in the Acute Trust. You will also establish links with local community services and ensuring a seamless service for patients across all sectors. You will play a pivotal part in supporting and ensuring the changing needs of the Parkinson’s Disease patient are met including when they access acute services.

Your role will include delivering education and training to other health care professionals about Parkinson’s Disease across SaTH. You will establish appropriate monitoring to ensure quality and safety of the service and participate in relevant audit and governance meetings.

Committed to delivering holistic evidence-based care, you will have the enthusiasm and ambition to take on this demanding role. The successful applicant will have relevant current or recent experience in caring for patients with Parkinson’s disease and other chronic diseases. You will be team player with strong organisational skills and substantial post registration experience.

### Main duties of the job

- To provide specialist advanced nursing practice across Shrewsbury and Telford Hospitals.
- To provide highly specialist nursing advice, in a format appropriate to the individual’s needs/abilities, to professionals, patients and carers in all aspects of Parkinson’s Disease care.
- Provide expert advice for complex care needs, using evidence based/patient centred principles to assess, plan, implement and evaluate routine, complex and specialist interventions.
- To provide leadership for Trust staff, through supervision / appraisal / education.
- Lead in planning, development and evaluation of Parkinson’s Disease services across Shrewsbury and Telford Hospitals, within the multidisciplinary team and holding a lead role for defined projects.
- To be a resource for specialist advice and information across the organisation, giving advice to multidisciplines on the clinical management of patients.
- To contribute to the maintenance and development of equitable seamless Parkinson’s Disease care service within the Trust and to represent the service at clinical, professional and management meetings as relevant

### Experience

**Essential**

- Substantial post registration experience with a broad range of clinical experience
- Specific experience within the speciality
- Experience of teaching and assessing in the clinical area

**Desirable**

- Participated in service development
- Knowledge of professional and NHS issues and policy relating to specialist area

### Qualifications

**Essential**

- Registered Nurse
- Appropriate post-registration qualification in specialist area
- Teaching and assessing/clinical supervision
- Evidence of ability to critically appraise research and transcribe/implement into evidence-based practice

**Desirable**

- Independent/Supplementary Nurse Prescribing Course (V300 Non-medical prescribing course)
