### Job overview

Due to a promotion to support maternity leave cover, we have a 12 month fixed term position available for a current or aspiring Band 6 Paediatric Physiotherapist at Ashford and St Peters Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust

No paediatric physiotherapy experience is needed, just a desire to learn and support children achieve their potential.

Full training and support will be provided by the Children Physiotherapy Team, with lots of opportunities to experience the world of paediatrics.

This post is funded for 37.5 hours however part time and flexible working requests will be considered.

The Children’s Physiotherapy Team is a small team which takes pride in their team, have regular meeting and training opportunities. The post holder will be required to work hard, be able to be change their roles on an hour by hour basis depending on the needs across the whole service (inpatients, outpatients and neonatal across hard working yet adaptable and provide high quality care for their inpatient and outpatient caseloads. The successful candidate will play a key role within the team to support inpatient and outpatient caseloads, develop the service and provide excellent care for our service users and their families.

### Main duties of the job

To provide a specialist physiotherapy knowledge and skills to support the following areas using a biopsychosocial approach:

Inpatient care including respiratory, developmental reviews, post-operative orthopaedic and rehabilitation on our children’s and postnatal wards.

Lead a caseload in paediatric musculoskeletal outpatients which are held at St Peter’s Hospital and Woking Leisure Centre.

Lead hydrotherapy, rehab clinics, gym classes and appointments on the gym floor at Woking Leisure Centre and Egham Orbit using the state of the art facilities.

Support with physiotherapy led orthopaedic services for serial casting.

To undertake a comprehensive assessment of patients including those with a wide variety of paediatric, musculoskeletal and orthopaedic conditions using investigative and analytical skills and excellent clinical reasoning to develop a comprehensive diagnosis.

To act independently to formulate, deliver, constantly evaluate, and adjust accordingly the individualised physiotherapy treatment plan, based upon a sound knowledge of current evidence-based practice, outcome measures, shared care goals and treatment for children born prematurely up to the age of 17 .

To assess and treat children with respiratory conditions. Paediatric respiratory competencies are required but as experience working within respiratory is not essential, full training will be given.

### Skills

**Essential**

- Being able to identify and manage physical & emotional needs of families and their self
- Evidence of difficult conversations and their management
- Ability to travel between sites (ability to drive and have access to a car)
- To be able deal with emotional and physical pressures including having good time management
- To complete comprehensive assessment and treatment plans for all aged children
- Demonstrate understanding of and use of a biopsychological approach to children’s care

### Knowledge

**Essential**

- Knowledge of how to assess and manage paediatric presentations
- Understanding and awareness of children specific pathology

**Desirable**

- Knowledge of and the ability to present, supervise and lead on service development

### Experience

**Essential**

- Experience of working as a band 5 physiotherapist for an NHS service provider
- Experience of working within a variety of rotations
- Experience of engaging with children

**Desirable**

- Working at Band 6 level
- Experience working with patients with neurology, orthopaedic, musculoskeletal and respiratory diagnosis.
- Neonatal and Paediatric physiotherapy experience

### Qualifications

**Essential**

- Diploma/ degree in physiotherapy and current HCPC registration
- Evidence of relevant post- graduate courses and continued professional development

**Desirable**

- Member of APCP
- Evidence of paediatric CPD
