A  Band 6 rotational position has become vacant within the Chelsea & Westminster Hospital Paediatric Physiotherapy Team.

Chelsea is centrally located with good transport links, making it a great place for people who like culture with the local museums and art galleries, evenings out, and is also close to areas with a village atmosphere and green spaces .

We provide high quality, family-centred care to children and young people attending the Chelsea Children’s Hospital and as part of the Cheyne Child Development Service - working in a variety of locations including the child’s home, educational and healthcare settings.

You should have paediatric experience with demonstrable knowledge of specific paediatric assessments and treatments. The post provides plenty of opportunities to further develop your skills across a range of paediatric conditions, with regular supervision to support your development.

The job involves cross site work between the Chelsea & Westminster Hospital and the West Middlesex Hospital site, and participation on the weekend and out of hours rota.

### Main duties of the job

Rotations take place annually in January and include the acute team working with inpatients including the high dependency unit and musculo-skeletal outpatients (including fracture and ED clinics) and the community team who are based at Parkview Centre for Health in White City and Chelsea and Westminster Hospital- working in a variety of locations including the child’s home, educational and healthcare settings. Hydrotherapy facilities are available in the community. Rotations within the community team focus on different clinical areas; Under 5s, over 5s, and a special school for children with severe/profound learning difficulties and complex medical needs. One of the  community paediatric rotations  includes working with the Paediatric Orthopaedic Practitioners and Orthopaedic Consultants in the Ponseti club foot clinic.  The post includes participation in the hospital’s respiratory on-call and weekend service for both adults and children. Good communication skills are essential as you will be working independently and alongside other health and social care professionals; including our highly specialized paediatric orthopaedic team, orthotics service and the wider multi-disciplinary team.

- The post holder will be a clearly identifiable senior clinical staff member.
- They will have significant clinical experience, provide sound clinical expertise to their team and more junior staff and coordinate and deliver high quality care.
- They will be a role model for expert clinical care, and lead on specific projects / service developments and management functions as delegated by the Band 7 therapist or Clinical Lead Therapist.
- They will role model the identified Trust values at all times.
- The post holder will work as an autonomous practitioner in providing physiotherapy assessment, treatment and management to their own designated caseload of patients and to maintain up to date physiotherapy records.
- They will evidence based principles and current best practise to assess, plan, implement and evaluate physiotherapy interventions.
- The post holder will provide supervision, teaching and support to more junior staff, therapy assistants and students on placement.

## Person Specification

### EXPERIENCE

**Essential**

- Evidence of experience as a Band 5 therapist in paediatrics.
- Experience working as part of MDT
- Participation in emergency on-call and weekend respiratory services including both adults and paediatrics
- Relevant post registration experience at Band 5 level in core areas including Musculoskeletal, neurology, orthopaedic and respiratory

**Desirable**

- Evidence of working in a team which was non-clinical
- Evidence of presentation at in-service training
- Evidence of experience as a Band 6 therapist
- Evidence of paediatric courses
- Evidence of working with children in a non-clinical setting

### EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS

**Essential**

- BSc or Diploma in Physiotherapy
- HPC registration
- Evidence of CPD and relevant post graduate courses

**Desirable**

- Member of special interest group ie: APCP, Neonatal SIG
- CPD portfolio
- Relevant post graduate qualifications

### SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE - SPECIAL

**Essential**

- Demonstrates specialist knowledge and experience of paediatric orthopaedic, respiratory, neuro-developmental and musculo-skeletal assessment and treatment interventions
- Demonstrates advanced clinical reasoning skills with examples
- The ability to clinically reason the application of appropriate paediatric assessment and treatment techniques .
- Identifies challenges of working in varying hospital or community settings and demonstrates the ability to adapt own practice accordingly.
- The ability to guide and direct therapy assistants and students in clinical practice
- Evidence of effective self-management including time, prioritisation, clinical caseload and stress
- Excellent communication skills with patients, relatives, staff and external contacts, including in challenging situations, demonstrating respect and kindness

**Desirable**

- Evidence of participation in research or audit
- Competent IT skills
