### Job summary

We invite applications for six Paediatric Tier 2 Medical doctors for a rotational 12 month post based at Good Hope Hospital (GHH) for 6 months, and at Heartlands Hospital (BHH) for 6 months. Both units together comprise the general paediatric department of University Hospitals Birmingham (UHB). Successful applicants will be part of the Tier 2 rota, with their first post EITHER at BHH OR at GHH followed by rotation to the other site. These posts arise as a result of approved funding to expand our Tier 2 rotas in order to enhance patient safety and increase training opportunities in the presence of increasing patient flow.

Note: we are currently unable to accept any applicants who have engaged with an agency.

### Main duties of the job

*To undertake Tier 2 duties on the Tier 2 Medical rota, and function at a senior practitioner level, to provide autonomous clinical care.

*To share with colleagues' responsibility for the day-to-day management of the Department.

*To assess and manage paediatric patients on Assessment Unit, ward, HDU, neonatal unit, and post-natal wards

*To share responsibilities of in-patient care including handover, ward rounds, transfer as required, investigations and documentation

*To provide outpatient clinics.

*To supervise resident doctors including FY1, 2, GP trainees and paediatric ST1-3 in their clinical roles, and to support their training and professional development

*To complete duties of weekly timetable including out of hours responsibilities, attending emergencies and leading resuscitation in the emergency department, delivery suite, Children's Assessment Unit, and elsewhere on the hospital site as required.

*To attend multidisciplinary ward meetings.

*To participate in Departmental Education and Training sessions.

*To actively participate in both departmental and Trust matters concerning Clinical Governance and audit.

The successful applicants will join the paediatric medical Tier 2 gaining general paediatric, neonatal, and ambulatory experience at GHH; and general paediatric, HDU, and subspecialty experience at BHH. You will work with the multidisciplinary team, under the supervision of the departmental consultants, offering leadership and training for other resident doctors, and providing emergency, elective, and ongoing clinical care to patients attending the assessment units, outpatient clinics, admitted to the inpatient wards, HDU (BHH) and Neonatal Unit (GHH), and supporting neonates on delivery suite and post natal wards (GHH), and children attending the Emergency Department and other departments, as required.

### Experience

**Essential**

- *Able to demonstrate clinical knowledge appropriate to level of responsibility
- *Minimum 12 months as paediatric medical practitioner in a multi professional environment equivalent to the hospitals in which trainees are currently working in UK
- *Recent Neonatal experience within NHS
- *Evidence of achievement of ST3 competencies in paediatrics.
- Expert knowledge of measures to stabilise critically ill babies, children and young adults
- * Basic understanding of audit and research methodologies
- * Basic understanding of health and safety, clinical risk and quality issues
- * Awareness of equality and diversity
- * Awareness of Clinical Governance procedures

- *Eligibility to live and work in the UK

- *APLS, PILS or EPALS AND NLS provider course
