### Main duties of the job

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a 1.0 WTE (37.5 hours/week) band 6 registered nurse to join our established Long Term Ventilation Team at University Hospital Southampton.   You will report to one of the band 7 clinical nurse specialists within the team.

The LTV service at UHS cares for a constantly growing, diverse population of children and young people within the Central South Coast region who require invasive or non-invasive ventilation.  Our aim is to initiate ventilation and discharge patients in a timely manner, enabling them to thrive at home.

You will work closely with the existing LTV and Sleep team across inpatient, outpatient and community areas.  There will be a requirement for you to work night shifts each month.

You will provide direct patient care to children with complex care needs and their families.  You will be in involved in the initiation of ventilation, ongoing management and troubleshooting.   You will facilitate discharge, providing ongoing support for the child and their family at home.

You will be responsible for teaching key skills of ventilation and sleep monitoring to staff and families as required.

You will need to work well in a team and have excellent communication skills, whilst also being able to work autonomously.

You will  be required to undertake night shifts, running titration nights and analysing sleep studies.

There will be an expectation that you will attend consultant follow up clinics at UHS and also provide telephone support for families in the form of telephone clinics.

Ideally, you will have clinical experience and expertise in the highly specialist field of long term ventilation.

You will have an education role, supporting the provision of both formal and informal teaching.    Evidence of on-going professional development is essential and you will need to hold a current Paediatric Life Support (PLS) certificate.

You should hold a UK driving license and have access to transportation to facilitate home visits and outreach support.

### Qualifications, knowledge and experience

**Essential**

- Registered nurse on relevant part of the NMC register
- Level 7 Post Grad Cert (Min 60 Credits), Master’s Degree within relevant speciality or equivalent knowledge to be assessed through evidence of relevant speciality training, experience or portfolio
- Specialist training / Qualification in area of practice
- Provide evidence of leading learning in practice
- Evidence of experience and completion of all band 6 competencies within relevant speciality
- Specialist clinical skills and experience within specialist area
- Evidence of change Management, leadership and innovation
- Clinical experience at Band 6 or equivalent within relevant speciality
- Provide evidence of supporting colleagues to promote learning in practice providing an excellent learning environment for all
