### ScotSTAR PAEDIATRIC LOCUM CONSULTANT

### ScotSTAR West BASE AT GLASGOW AIRPORT

Applications are invited for sessions in the ScotSTAR Paediatric Retrieval Service operated by the Scottish Ambulance Service (SAS). This is a six month fixed term position from August 2026 to February 2027. Please see attached pack for further information.

The post is suitable for specialty trainees who have completed specialty training (or who will CCT within the next 6 months) or equivalent in the following: paediatric intensive care medicine, paediatric anaesthesia, adult intensive care and/or anaesthesia (with regular exposure to paediatrics) or paediatric emergency medicine (with regular exposure to paediatric intensive care medicine).

The retrieval service provides a secondary critical care patient transfer service for paediatric patients (\<16 years) in Scotland.

The majority of retrievals undertaken by the Paediatric team are by road in our Paediatric Intensive Care Road Ambulance however approximately 25% are by air on rotary and fixed wing aircraft operated by the SAS and the Coastguard Search and Rescue helicopter.

The post is 10 PA/week with the ScotSTAR Paediatric Retrieval Team.

The post is based at the ScotSTAR West base at Glasgow Airport.

### OTHER

**Essential**

- Evidence of Hepatitis B immune status.
- Pre-employment health screening.
- Willingness to undertake safe retrieval missions in adverse weather conditions and undertake regular visits to health care facilities throughout Scotland for feedback purposes.

**Desirable**

- Good information technology skills.

### EXPERIENCE

**Essential**

- Experience in management of critically ill paediatric patients.

**Desirable**

- Previous experience in retrieval of critically ill patients.
- Previous experience of working with a retrieval service.

- Leadership qualities.
- Good communication & organisational skills.

### KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

- Competency in management of acute illness and injury in children.
- Good understanding of the principles of clinical governance.
- Competence in independent management of critically ill paediatric patients including emergency anaesthesia, ventilation, invasive monitoring and organ support.

### RESEARCH & PUBLICATIONS

**Essential**

- Demonstration of active involvement in design and running of relevant clinical audit.
- Experience of presenting case reports, audit or research results.

**Desirable**

- Evidence of participation in relevant research
- Audit or research publications

### EDUCATION QUALIFICATIONS & TRAINING

**Essential**

- Full GMC registration with one of the following: Paediatric intensive care medicine (specialist registration in subspecialty training or equivalent); Paediatric anaesthesia (specialist registration in subspecialty training or equivalent); Adult intensive care medicine or anaesthetics with regular paediatric exposure in their practice (specialist in subspecialty training or equivalent); Paediatric emergency medicine with experience in paediatric intensive care medicine (specialist registration in subspecialty training or equivalent).
- CCT in above or will obtain CCT within next 6 months.
- Please note that we do not offer sponsporship so applicants must be able to work in UK

**Desirable**

- EPLS or APLS instructor
