### Job overview

This job would suit senior trainees nearing the end of their training or post CCT. There are two posts and the appointed fellows are expected to work together as a team to participate fully in all aspects of the Paediatric critical care, ECMO and airway services. There will be opportunities to participate in the delivery of PCC and retrieval service as well. There will be two start dates available, with one post with a start date of March 1st 2027, and another post with a start date of September 6th 2027.

### Main duties of the job

Duties and responsibilities:

Clinical:

To manage airway and ECMO patients under the supervision of the PICU consultants

An opportunity to gain airway and bronchoscopy skills in theatres and PICU.

To be flexible with working patterns in recognition of the unpredictability of ECMO initiation and airway emergencies.

In addition to ECMO and airway commitments, as one of 4-5 senior fellows in PICU, both airway and ECMO fellows are expected to support the chief fellow role and provide clinical and procedural supervision for other PICU trainees in the PICU and retrieval setting.

The senior fellows (Airway and ECMO included) contribute to weekend cover as chief fellow.

Administrative:

Organise the weekly ECMO and airway meetings including delivering case reviews.

Maintain the paediatric ECMO and critical care airway database database.

To help organize and deliver the elective bronchoscopy lists

Research and audit

The ECMO team is developing a number of quality improvement projects and the successful applicant will be expected to participate in these.

There are research opportunities both within the PICU and ECMO team and participation is encouraged. The aim is that they will lead one ECMO/airway research project during their post.

### Audit

**Essential**

- Understands principles of audit

**Desirable**

- Evidence of participation in audit

### Bbility

**Essential**

- Level of MRCP, FRCA or equivalent.
- Able to perform CPR, intubation, arterial/ central lines, chest drains.
- Able to make good medical notes.

**Desirable**

- Good IT skills – experience with data capture and reporting
- Proficient in use of bedside ultrasound.

### Research

**Essential**

- Understands principles of research.

**Desirable**

- Publications from research work undertaken previously.
- Evidence of interest in research

### Experience

- Proven record of experience and training in parent speciality with paediatric intensive care experience.

- Previous ECMO experience Attendance on a recognised ECMO course.
