### Job overview

A position has arisen within the Medicine Outpatients team for a Receptionist. The role will be for 29 hours per week over Monday - Friday.

Monday 8am -1pm Tuesday 8am-5:30pm Wednesday 9am-1pm Thursday 8am-2pm Friday 8am-2pm

The successfully candidate must be willing to be flexible to support annual leave across the team when needed.

The role is to provide a full reception service to outpatient clinics ensuring all patient information, referrals and appointments are appropriately processed within Trust guidelines.

The candidate will offer the highest standard of customer care to patients, visitors and other service users, adhering to Departmental guidelines, Standard Operating Procedures and the Trust’s Code of Values and Behaviours.

### Main duties of the job

As a Receptionist you will provide the first point of contact for patients, relatives and carers arriving for an outpatient appointment, presenting a professional, calm and confident manner in line with the Trust’s Values and Behaviours.

You will provide a full reception service to the outpatient clinic including, but not limited to:

- Maintaining accurate information and patient demographics within Trust PAS system. - Supporting clinical staff in ensuring the Trust meets accessible information standards for patients with communication difficulties. - Ensuring patients’ arrival and departure times are electronically captured. - Distribution, collation and inputting of clinic outcomes. - Book future appointments and recording of non-attendances.

**Essential**

- Ability to demonstrate an interest in the role
- Good keyboard/IT skills with the ability to accurately input data
- Good literacy and numeracy skills
- Good organisational/time management skills with the ability to demonstrate initiative when balancing work demands
- Ability to work in a pressurised working environment with frequent interruptions
- Good communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with patients, relatives and other staff groups
- Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a multi-disciplinary team

### Qualifications

**Essential**

- 4 GCSE's grade D or above including Mathematics and English or equivalent e.g. level 2 literacy and numeracy qualifications

**Desirable**

- NVQ 2 in Customer Care or administration experience including recent face to face working with the general public

### Experience and Knowledge

**Essential**

- Basic knowledge of the Receptionist role
- Knowledge of the importance of confidentiality and data protection issues in a healthcare environment

**Desirable**

- Experience of working with the general public
- Experience of working with clinical teams
- Experience of working with NHS IT systems
- Knowledge of medical terminology
