### Job overview

We are looking for a capable, experienced, and highly motivated individual to join the administrative team within the ELHT Orthoptic Department.

### Main duties of the job

The post holder will provide clerical support to the Orthoptic Department, using both the Cerner and EMIS booking systems.

With experience of patient administration systems, office management, and diary coordination, you will act as a key coordinator of the team’s clinical activities.

### Detailed job description and main responsibilities

You will be responsible for the organisation and scheduling of Orthoptic clinics across East Lancashire.

This includes making new and follow-up appointments for both Consultant-led and Orthoptic clinics, as well as cancelling and rebooking hospital and community Orthoptic appointments when required.

You will act as a central point of contact for all community referrals and some hospital referrals.

In addition, you will answer telephone calls and manage messages left on the answer machine in a professional and timely manner.

## Person Specification

### Experience

**Essential**

- Experience of office work to include planning meetings, organising outlook diaries, setting up and using Excel databases, communicating to multiple parties via email and paper letters
- Competent in the use of Microsoft office and databases and EMIS
- Knowledge and understanding of professional and ethical issues

**Desirable**

- Experience of primary and health community services
- Experience of hospital administration system

### Qualifications

**Essential**

- GCSE English and Maths Level 4 or above or equivalent

**Desirable**

- RSA or OCR Typing, AMSPAR level 3
- NVQ level 3 or equivalent in business or administration.

### Personal Attributes

**Essential**

- Skilled in developing and maintaining effective working relationships with colleagues and other professionals

### Knowledge and Skills

**Essential**

- Literate in IT/Computer Skills
- Good oral communication skills
- Demonstrate excellent time management skills with an ability to plan and prioritise own workload
