### Job overview

To deliver a range of evidence-based, community oral health improvement programmes across Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent as identified in NHS England and Improvements Oral Health Improvement Specification for adults and children, on behalf of Shropshire Community Health NHS Trust.

This role will initially prioritise expansion of supervised toothbrushing in new targeted settings and maintenance of existing settings.

Develop and maintain effective working relationships with a range of front-line health, education, social care and voluntary agency staff to contribute to improving oral health and reducing inequalities in oral health.

This post would be best suited to a GDC registered dental nurse with an oral health qualification or GDC registered dental therapist with a passion for improving oral health and reducing oral health inequalities.

### Main duties of the job

- To support the expansion and maintenance of targeted supervised toothbrushing.
- To assist the line manager in development and delivery of interventions to improve oral health in conjunction with key partners and the public.
- To ensure timely completion of data and reports as requested by the line manager in order to monitor the delivery of oral health interventions.
- To assist the line manager with resolving issues and initiating corrective action as appropriate.
- To be professionally and legally accountable for all elements of your work.
- To remain fully updated on national policy, NICE, NHS and OHID guidance and policies and developments in oral health and the evidence base supporting relevant health and oral health improvement programmes, in order to ensure evidence based practise.
- To provide spontaneous and planned advice, teaching and instruction to carers, health visitors, and other professionals, to promote understanding of oral health  and to ensure a consistent approach to care delivery.
- To work closely with other members of the oral health improvement team and administrative support staff within the team to ensure effective and efficient delivery of oral health programmes.

### Experience

- Experience of planning and delivering oral health improvement programmes, training and events

### Qualifications

**Essential**

- Either An approved level 3 Diploma in Dental Nursing qualification with a recognised oral health education qualification (GDC registered) Or A dental qualification in dental therapy, or dental hygiene; GDC registered (a recognised national qualification in oral health improvement is not required)

### Knowledge and Skills

**Essential**

- Knowledge of aetiology and prevention of main dental diseases
- Understanding of Health Improvement principles and practices
- Political sensitivity regarding water fluoridation.
- Able to design, implement and evaluate simple projects
- Able to communicate effectively with a wide range of audiences, using different media e.g. verbal and writing skills
- Self-aware and motivated, confident and enthusiastic
- Good organisational and time management skills and the ability to work to fixed deadlines
- Skilled in the use a range of IT applications to deliver face to face and online training and maintain programme information
