### Job overview

Trust Grade Fellow in Ophthalmology (Medical Retina) Applications are invited for the above post which offers advanced specialist training in Medical Retina sub-specialty, to be based at the Leicester Royal Infirmary, at the University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust. The post is to commence as soon as possible for a fixed-term period of one year.

### Main duties of the job

The successful appointee will be expected to participate in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and clinical audit. They will be required to undertake management duties and work in a multidisciplinary team. The appointee will have a principle interest in Medical Retina sub-specialty.

The appointee will join an active and enthusiastic team of 28 Ophthalmologists, and 6 specialty doctors both generalist and sub-specialist Ophthalmology services are provided within UHL.

Applicants must already be on the GMC specialist register or within 6 months of the interview date have a certificate of completion of specialist training.

As this post is regulated by the Protection of Children Act 1999, The Criminal Justice Courts Act 2000 and / or the Care Standards Act 2000 an enhanced police criminal records disclosure will be requested by the Trust in the event of a successful application.

### Experience

**Essential**

- Adequate training in Ophthalmology
- Excellent clinical skills and experience requisite to meeting all aspects of the Job Plan.
- Ability to apply sound clinical judgment to problems
- Demonstrates clear, logical thinking / analytical approach.
- Emergency eye casualty experience
- Extensive experience in Medical Retina

**Desirable**

- Evidence of a special interest in Medical Retina and expertise that complements those of other doctors in the Department
- Evidence of clinical or research commitment and a relevant specialty interest.

### Training & Qualifications

**Essential**

- Full and specialist registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) or eligible for specialist registration within six months of interview or Holder of Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), or evidence of within six months of award of CCT or equivalent by date of interview

**Desirable**

- Higher academic qualification (fellowship/s within the subspecialty)

- Ability to work to overcome barriers to change (negotiating, influencing and persuasion skills).

**Desirable**

- Evidence of management and administration experience.
- Management training on an accredited course.
