Working Full time: 37.5 hours per week

An opportunity has arisen for an Ophthalmic Technician to join our progressive Ophthalmology team in The Westminster Eye Centre at The Countess of Chester Hospital

You will be based within the Ophthalmic department, and work as part of a multidisciplinary team of consultant ophthalmologists, ophthalmic nurses and other support staff.

This interesting and challenging role involves performing diagnostic tests on patients presenting with a variety of eye conditions. This is an active hands-on job, where you will work face-to-face with patients performing vision assessments, instilling dilating eye drops and using a variety of diagnostic imaging equipment.

A knowledge of eye anatomy and pathology, along with experience of specialist ophthalmic imaging equipment, is essential. Please refer to job description for further information about the role.

We are looking for a reliable person who is able to pay close and accurate attention to detail. You must also demonstrate excellent communication skills, be caring, enthusiastic and committed to working as part of a large team dedicated to providing high quality patient focused care.

### Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will undertake a wide range of duties with respect to ophthalmic photography for the ophthalmology department, in accordance with the needs of the Trust.

You will be required to work within the multidisciplinary team in a cooperative and professional manner, ensuring the ward or department is a safe, clean and a welcoming place for patients, families and staff.

You will be expected to deliver an efficient, professional, skilled and broad range of technical services, using a wide range of equipment. You will undertake your own workload of patients, maintain associated records, and mentor junior staff where required. The post holder will be expected to attend additional training when required and maintain CPD.

## Person Specification

### Knowledge and Qualifications

**Essential**

- A good standard of general education including Maths and English at grade A-C (or equivalent)
- Level 3 qualification (e.g. A-Level’s, NVQ3) in Health & Social Care OR equivalent knowledge and experience.
- Completion of the Care Certificate within specified timeframe on commencing employment with the Trust.

**Desirable**

- IMI Membership
- HND or equivalent qualification in photography
- Ophthalmic Photography (or relevant Medical Photography experience) – evidence required

### Clinical Experience and Effectiveness

**Essential**

- Relevant clinical skills with proven competencies
- Relevant clinical skills with proven competencies.
