To Support qualified nursing staff in providing high quality individualized care to a defined group of service users, relatives and carers.

Ensuring the safety and well being of service users and always working in a manner that promotes dignity and human rights through the adoption of person-centered care principles.

### Main duties of the job

Clinical and Patient Care

- To support qualified staff in the assessment of health needs, planning, delivery and evaluation of care for a number of individuals or groups of patients, including clinical and laser risk assessment
- To Exercise a reasonable and agreed degree of professional autonomy and make judgements and decisions in order to satisfy the expectations and demands of the job after a period of training and completion of appropriate competencies.
- To work alongside all staff in all areas of the patient pathway– ophthalmic outpatient clinics and nurse led pre assessment clinics, day care including admissions and discharge areas.
- To undertake clinical work and related tasks as delegated by qualified nursing staff, following appropriate training and assessment of competency.
- To liaise effectively with all stakeholders in the care process, including carers and relatives, aspiring to provide an effective, seamless and integrated service to patients.
- To attain the competencies of ECG, vision assessment using Logmar and Snellen testing charts and observations, visual imaging equipment, and stock management after training and having followed the Trusts required protocol.

Communication

- To communicate effectively, respectfully and in a timely manner within the team.
- Understand the principles of confidentiality.
- Always communicate in a way that maintains patient confidentiality.
- Maintain clear and legible patient records in accordance with both Trust and professional standards for record keeping.

Education / Professional Development

- To maintain and update relevant knowledge and skills, maintain a professional portfolio and participate in further training as appropriate, in order to enhance quality of care for patients and carers.
- To develop within a framework and personal development plan as agreed with your line manager.
- Keep up to date with mandatory training and compliance – these may be completing online assessments, attending study day/conference. At times staff are required to travel to Moorfields City Road for face to face training.

Compliance and Governance

- Maintain clear and legible patient records in accordance with both Trust and professional standards for record keeping.
- In conjunction with the nurse in charge and other senior members of the multidisciplinary team support a positive culture, patient experience and environment for both staff and patients.

### Experience

**Essential**

- Ability to work within a team and as an individual

**Desirable**

- Experience working within the NHS
- Understanding safeguarding issues for both Adult and Children

### Aptitude and Skills

**Essential**

- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Adaptable and have ability to work under pressure

**Desirable**

- Experience working with photographic equipment
- Confidential Data handling

### Education and Qualifications

**Essential**

- GCSE/GCE level education or equivalent
- Very good IT/Computer skills

**Desirable**

- Have minimum of one year NHS experience
- Experience in dealing and working with the Public
