The Medicine Division at Birmingham Children's and Women's NHS Foundation Trust is seeking to appoint a Operational Manager to join Clinical Genetics.

There has never been a more exciting and rewarding time to be part of resetting and delivering clinical genetics services in the NHS. This exciting and demanding post will call on and stretch all of your operational management skills as well as offer opportunities to learn new skills.

As Operational Manager, you will be responsible for the effective operational management of the specialty.

This role is a senior management role with a high profile and requires applicants that have a significant level of leadership knowledge and operational experience including budget management, workforce planning, and business planning and performance management.

### Main duties of the job

- The post holder will support the division in leading and managing the performance of Clinical Genetics in the delivery of planned service capacity through the effective use of resources.
- To manage performance against local and national qualitative and quantitative service targets and within the Trust's financial allocations.
- To lead and manage the assessment of complex operational issues and challenges. This will demand high levels of judgment, analysis and interaction to agree clear solutions and recommendations that the post holder will be responsible for implementing.
- To provide effective and innovative leadership and management, ensuring clear direction concerning service improvement and effective utilisation of resources.

### Applicant requirements

- Degree level or equivalent experience

- Experience in budgetary and resource management

- Experience in capacity and service planning within an acute health care setting

### Knowledge & Nature of Experience

- Minimum of 3 years relevant managerial experience including line management
- Knowledge of NHS direction and policy initiatives
- Proven change management skills in a complex healthcare setting
- Knowledge, understanding and experience in Risk Management and Governance issues

**Desirable**

- Knowledge and understanding of efficiency measures
- Familiarity with IT-based management & clinical information systems
- Experience in managing complex organisational change projects
