An exciting opportunity has arisen for 2 permanent part-time Band 5 Staff Nurses to join the Oncology Day Unit based at Berwick Infirmary & Alnwick Infirmary.  This is one of 5 day units within Northumbria NHS Foundation Healthcare Trust.

We are looking for an enthusiastic individual who has an interest in the Oncology speciality. The successful applicant will be working within a highly motivated, friendly team who will be delivering high quality standards of care.

### Main duties of the job

This post will be working to supporting the existing team in the safe delivery of holistic care to a wide range of cancer patients undergoing day patients treatments.

Under the direction of the unit manager and senior staff, provide high standards of evidence based, quality, holistic, nurse-led care to a wide variety of cancer patients and their carers.

With appropriate training and support safely administer a wide range of cytotoxic chemotherapy drugs and supportive care to patients.

To role model compassionate and inclusive leadership in order to shape the creation of a collective leadership culture within the trust. This means demonstrating a consistent leadership style which:- (a) engages, enables and empowers others (b) uses coaching to promote ownership of learning and quality improvement and (c) facilitates team working and collaboration within teams / departments and across organisational boundaries.

The successful candidate will be a registered nurse with previous experience in looking after people with a cancer diagnosis. The applicant should have excellent communication skills. Chemotherapy training will be given but venepuncture, IV drug administration and care of central venous access devices would be an advantage. If chemotherapy training is needed, the applicants must be willing to undertake formal study to obtain the relevant qualifications as part of their development and role.

The successful candidate should be flexible to meet the increasingly complex needs of the service and be able to work effectively within a small team, with resilience and a sense of humour.

## Person Specification

### Qualifications

**Essential**

- 1st level registration
- Mentorship Qualification or relevant equivalent qualification (essential requirement for post, expected that this will be completed within an 18 month period)
- Diploma/degree in nursing.
- Evidence of qualification to undertake the supervision, teaching and assessing of students (essential requirement for post, expectation this will be completed within an 18 month period.
- Willingness to expand knowledge and scope of practice to encompass phlebotomy, cannulation, Vascular access devices CVC care, and the administration of Systematic Anti-Cancer Treatments (SACT) cytotoxic chemotherapy.
- Willing to undertake accredited SACT course and complete SACT competence passport (Completion within 12 months of commencement).

**Desirable**

- PP126/7- Practice Assessor and Academic Assessor course.
- D32/33 – Assessor Course.
- Post Registration qualification in specialty.
