### Job overview

The post provides consultant input to the Ealing East Cognitive Impairment and Dementia Service within the Older People’s Mental Health Service (OPMHS) as part of Ealing Community Partnership ( ECP), working closely with the Ealing Specialist Older Adult Service (SOAMHS) to ensure seamless and holistic care of patients presenting with dementia co-located in the same clinic.

Ealing East CIDS provide early assessment, treatment and care planning of people with primary dementias. It is currently a specialist commissioned service with a highly skilled and synergistic multidisciplinary team. The Care Quality Commission awarded the West London NHS Trust Community-Based Mental Health Services for Older People a “Good” rating. The service also links in with the HSE nominated CHILS team, which provides bespoke specialist mental health treatment for patients residing in a care home.

### Main duties of the job

To provide clinical and professional leadership within the post and to take part in management activities and governance processes related to the post or the wider service within which it is embedded.

As a senior clinician, to have an integral role in the performance of the team, further development of the service, and the development of the clinical pathways and priorities of the service line.

- Contribute to the creation of care plans based on NICE guidance and evidence-based interventions. To work within the multidisciplinary team promoting respect for all professional groups and focusing on coherent and integrated team work. Support and develop virtual and community liaison multi agency grand rounds based upon the Integrated Care (ICP) model with primary care and intermediate care.

To teach and contribute to the supervision of medical staff, other professionals in the CIDS teams and medical students.

Support all research, quality improvement and audits within the Trust and support the research portfolio of the OPMHS service line within ECP

Compliance with all legal obligations covering clinical practice (e.g. Mental Health Act and code of practice).

- Attend the Trust wide Consultant and SAS meetings and other senior management meetings. A commitment to ensuring fair access to services for all. Compliance with procedures whereby doctors report concerns about professional conduct or competence of medical or other colleagues.

## Person Specification

### Eligibility

**Essential**

- Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practice at the time of appointment
- GMC Specialist Register or within 6 months
- Good standing with GMC with respect to warning and conditions on practice

**Desirable**

- GMC Specialist Register (old age psychiatry or dual training in both adult and old age) or within six months
- Approved Clinician status OR able to achieve within 3 months of appointment
- Approved under S12 OR able to achieve within 3 months of appointment

### Qualifications

**Essential**

- MBBS or equivalent medical qualification

**Desirable**

- Qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research or management
- MRCPsych
- Additional clinical qualifications

### Clinical knowledge

**Essential**

- Excellent clinical skills in assessment and treatment of older adults with mental health issues
- Able to meet duties under MHA and MCA
- Excellent knowledge in speciality

**Desirable**

- Wide range of specialist and sub- specialist experience relevant to post within NHS or comparable service
