An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated and compassionate registered nurse to join the Ocular Oncology Service at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust as a Band 6 Clinical Nurse Specialist.

This role is to support the delivery of high-quality, patient-centred care for individuals undergoing investigation and treatment for ocular malignancies. The post holder will work closely with the multidisciplinary team (MDT) and existing Clinical Nurse Specialists to develop the knowledge and skills required.

You will act as a key point of contact for patients, supporting them across the cancer pathway, while developing advanced clinical assessment, care coordination and communication skills within a specialist service.

### Main duties of the job

- Support the delivery of specialist nursing care to patients with suspected or confirmed ocular cancers
- Act as a key contact for patients, providing information, support and signposting
- Undertake holistic needs assessments, identifying physical, psychological and social needs
- Assist in coordinating patient pathways across ophthalmology, oncology and related services
- Support preparation for and participation in multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings
- Develop skills in clinical assessment and decision-making under supervision
- Provide patient education and advice throughout diagnosis, treatment and follow‑up
- Maintain accurate clinical documentation and contribute to audit and service improvement
- Work within Trust policies, cancer standards and governance frameworks

Clinical

- Deliver safe, effective and patient-centred care with guidance and supervision of Lead CNS
- Undertake patient assessments and contribute to care planning
- Monitor patient progress and escalate concerns appropriately
- Support clinics and outpatient services

Communication

- Provide clear and compassionate communication to patients and families
- Support patients through potentially distressing and complex diagnoses
- Act as a link between patients, carers and the MDT

## Person Specification

### Experience

**Essential**

- Evidence of management and leadership qualities.
- Significant post-registration experience
- Demonstrable experience in Oncology or Cancer care
- Experience working within a multidisciplinary team.
- Experience of managing complex patients with physical and psychological needs.
- Ability to manage own caseload and prioritise workload.

**Desirable**

- Experience in Ophthalmology or Ocular Oncology.
- Management experience within an inpatient setting.
- Experience as a CNS or in a specialist/advanced practice role.
- Experience of assessing patients’ needs as an autonomous practitioner
- Experience in patient pathway coordination/ navigation.
- Understanding of holistic needs assessment.

- Registered nurse (valid with NMC)
- To have completed the national practice assessor training or equivalent teaching and assessing qualification for those with ENB998.
- Evidence of continuing professional development (CPD).
- Post registration qualification in Oncology / Ophthalmology or willingness to undertake.
- First level degree or working towards

**Desirable**

- Master’s level study (or working towards).
