Occupational Therapy Technician

Band 4

The Occupational Therapy Technician post is based in the integrated Adult Community Occupational Therapy team. Our team works alongside social work colleagues with an office base in Central Croydon.

There is a high demand for Community Occupational Therapy,  and so this is a busy role that requires you to be efficient and effective. You will need to be independent in travelling around the borough. We are a supportive and committed team, you will receive regular supervision and support.

### Main duties of the job

To be responsible for assessing the functional needs of adults in their homes and in a community setting, in line with all relevant legislation e.g. the Care Act 2014, and in accordance with the Trust and Council’s policies and procedures. To make recommendations and implement a wide range of simple cost effective interventions to meet individuals’ assessed need in accordance with an agreed care plan, to optimise client function and quality of life. To be an actively participating member of the specialist ACOT team, contributing positively to the overall function of the department, supporting the role of Occupational Therapists. To ensure that intervention is responsive, and sensitive to the social, cultural, linguistic and religious needs of clients in accordance with equal opportunity policies. To be a highly effective communicator demonstrating effective verbal and written skills.

### Essential

**Essential**

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills

**Desirable**

- Car driver / owner

### EXPERIENCE

**Essential**

- Experience of working with people with disabilities
- Good assessment and interpersonal skills
- Knowledge and experience of OT services within a community setting

**Desirable**

- Analyse risk and respond appropriately to emergencies /crises.
- Working constructively as part of a team
- Able to work under pressure.

### KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING

**Essential**

- Understanding of Health and Safety.
- Equality issues
- Awareness of current issues relating to relevant User group.

**Desirable**

- The work of the Primary care Trust and /or Social Services

### EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS

**Essential**

- Basic education including GCSEs or equivalent
- NVQ level 3 or demonstratable equivalent experience

**Desirable**

- Experience working with clients with care and support needs.
- Experience working as part of a team
