We are offering an exciting opportunity for a Band 5 Occupational Therapist to join our team. We have an established and dedicated team of Occupational Therapists, OTA's, Sports, education, technical instructors and Wellbeing facilitators. We work together to provide a

comprehensive recovery-based programme to meet the therapeutic needs of the patient group. The hospital has a wide range of facilities and work also takes place in the community.

The Wells Road Centre is a low secure unit which offers an inpatient service across three pathways; male mental health, Intellectual Disability and a women's service. The post holder will be based on one ward dependant on the needs of the service. The current placement is one of the Male mental health wards.

The trust is committed to using a recovery focused approach to care. You will be supported throughout by other specialist Occupational Therapists and OT leads.

### Main duties of the job

To contribute to a high-quality Occupational Therapy service by carrying out assessment, goal setting, identifying occupational based interventions, implementing treatment programmes and evaluation in conjunction with other members of the Multi- Disciplinary Team (MDT) under the supervision of a Senior Occupational Therapist and OT Team Leader.

To support patients/ service users to improve or maintain their level of function and quality of life and plan future care in an appropriate setting.

To be responsible with the MDT for planning treatment pathways, a safe discharge / progression to next stage.

To work as part of the multi-disciplinary team and use his/her clinical expertise to participate in the preparation, implementation and review of plans to aid recovery.

To complete risk management plans for complex and challenging situations in variety of

environments from the community, inpatient wards.

### Detailed job description and main responsibilities

This role requires the individual to be able to assess patients / service user’s needs, identify effective OT plans and implement these. In order to do this the post holder will need an understanding of the complex needs and treatment approaches relevant the patient / service user group. The post holder will need to communicate effectively with a wide range of multi-disciplinary colleagues and agencies.

As a registered practitioner you will be professionally and legally accountable under the HCPC code of professional practice.

To be the Occupational Therapy key worker for a defined patient caseload and manage this under supervision.

To undertake a range of assessments from OT models including MOHO.

Deliver a needs led Occupational Therapy programme using a range of treatment approaches.

Be actively involved in clinical governance and quality assurance activities as required.

Continually update and develop skills, utilise CPD opportunities and maintain own professional portfolio.

You will receive a comprehensive induction training programme and will be supported to develop in the role. We offer preceptorship for newly qualified OTs and a range of CPD opportunities.

You will receive clinical and managerial supervision from a Senior Occupational Therapist and have the opportunity to attend reflective practice.

Please note applicants will be required to pay for their DBS check. Costs are deducted from salary following appointment. The cost of the DBS application is £26.40 (standard) or £54.40 (enhanced), this cost will be deducted from your salary over the first 2 months of employment.

You are encouraged to enrol for the DBS Update Service. An annual fee of £16 per year applies.

### Skills

**Essential**

- Ability to motivate patients
- Ability to work independently and prioritise own workload
- Good communication, negotiation and liaison skills (both oral and written)
- Ability to function effectively within a multi-professional team and develop cohesive working relationships
- Ability to maintain clear professional boundaries when working with a challenging patient group

### Training

**Essential**

- Training in standardized OT assessments and outcome measures

**Desirable**

- Practice Placement Educators training and APPLE accreditation

**Essential**

- Knowledge of patient-focused approaches and user/care involvement
- Knowledge of the Mental Health Act, other relevant legislation and current mental health issues
- Knowledge of assessment, treatment and evaluation approaches used in mental health

- Able to demonstrate knowledge of risk and risk assessment

- Awareness of the current issues relating to forensic services

### Experience

**Essential**

- Experience in occupational therapy assessment, treatment planning, delivery and evaluation in a mental health setting with minimal supervision
- Experience of planning and running a variety of individual and group interventions
- Experience of effective team working
- Experience of liaison with other agencies, services and professional colleagues
- Experience of maintaining written records, databases and producing reports

**Desirable**

- Experience of working in a secure setting, e.g. prison, young offender institute or forensic unit
