Nutrition Educator for Diabetes (Band 4) Temporary (Fixed Term) Post Community Diabetes Service | Gloucestershire | Countywide

Are you passionate about nutrition, healthy lifestyles and empowering people to manage their diabetes?

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Nutrition Educator to join our Team. You will deliver engaging education programmes, both face-to-face and online, helping people with type 2 Diabetes develop the knowledge, skills and confidence to manage their condition effectively.

Working as part of a friendly multidisciplinary team, you will facilitate group education sessions, provide individualised support, promote lifestyle changes, contribute to service development, and help evaluate and improve our education programmes.

We are seeking someone with a recognised qualification in nutrition (or equivalent experience), excellent communication and IT skills, and a genuine interest in diabetes care and health promotion. Experience of delivering training, workshops or group education is an advantage.

### Main duties of the job

As a key member of the Community Diabetes Service, you will support development and provision of structured patient education, including education of families and carers, for people with Type 2 Diabetes.

This involves:

- Providing complex nutritional information and managing group dynamics
- Supporting development of self-management skills for the person with type 2 diabetes, in liaison with our nurses and dietitians
- Offering encouragement and support to enable the person with type 2 diabetes towards a more active lifestyle, according to their needs and abilities
- Working collaboratively with internal and external agencies; and promoting the service at meetings and events
- Undertaking self-evaluation and administrative duties to support this role.

### Detailed job description and main responsibilities

- Delivering Diabetes and You and Diabetes, Food and You education sessions (online and face to face)
- Calls to service users to arrange appointments, follow up sessions and signposting
- Regular education update meetings within the team, and service managers
- Monitoring, evaluation and audit of the programmes
- Development and peer supervision of programme delivery
- Individual consultations for those unable to engage in a group setting
- Promotion of the sessions in the local area, including using social media platforms.

### Applicant requirements

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.

This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service.

## Person Specification

### Knowledge

**Essential**

- Evidence based knowledge of nutrition and healthy lifestyles including physical activity and NICE/NHSE guidelines on each
- Knowledge and awareness of, and an interest in diabetes and healthy lifestyles

**Desirable**

- Knowledge acquired through training, short courses and experience, of specific patient conditions, forms of therapy and treatment.

### Qualifications

**Essential**

- Diploma level qualification or equivalent in Nutrition

**Desirable**

- Degree level qualification in Nutrition
- UK Voluntary Register of Nutritionists
- Behaviour change/Counselling training

### Communications and Interpersonal

**Essential**

- Effective communication, IT and presentation skills - able to develop a good rapport with participants, their family/carer and health care professionals
- Excellent IT skills including PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Outlook, Microsoft Teams or similar.
- To be an excellent communicator, able to adapt information to different clients.

**Desirable**

- Experience of facilitating group training and workshops, ideally in preventative health, public health or health awareness
- Knowledge of how to motivate and encourage participants to support the improvement of their health and wellbeing

### Personal Abilities and Attributes

**Essential**

- Ability to drive to various community venues throughout Gloucestershire on a daily basis
- Ability to lift and move education kits, which may include bulky boxes. Transfer of boxes from various venues
