An opportunity has arisen for Band 3  Nursing Support Workers to work as part of the clinical team within Ward 9 in the Royal Glamorgan Hospital.

Ward 9 has a Surgical Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) area,  a 24 hour trolley bay and a 9 bedded 72 hour Surgical Assessment Unit.

The successful candidate will be required to have had past surgical experience and  work under the direct supervision of the registered nurse and will be expected to undertake fundamental aspects of patient care at Band 3 criteria including undertaking patient’s vital signs of surgical patients.

The successful candidate will work under the direct supervision of the registered nurse and will be expected to undertake fundamental aspects of patient care  at Band 3 criteria including undertaking patient’s vital signs.   The individual will be required to have good communication skills to be able to relate to patients, members of patients families and the multi-disciplinary team that work within the clinical area.   Informal visits are encouraged.

Welsh Skills Desirable: This post is advertised as Welsh Desirable. This doesn’t mean essential; whilst the candidate doesn't need to have skills in Welsh, we'll consider it an advantage when short-listing and selecting candidates. This isn’t ‘fluency’, just Speaking & Listening skills at Level 3 (equivalent to CEFR B2) or above. Level 3 means basic conversations with patients about their everyday health. ## Person Specification

### Skills

**Essential**

- Good communication skills – verbal and written, with the ability to convey information clearly and sensitively
- Ability to demonstrate a caring and compassionate approach

**Desirable**

- Welsh language speaking/listening skills at Level 3 or above

### Knowledge

**Essential**

- Knowledge of relevant policies and procedures within a healthcare setting for example the principles of Safeguarding adults/children to  keep patients within their care safe, and confidentiality for example General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR)

### Experience

**Essential**

- Experience of working within a relevant health or social care environment, providing direct patient care

**Desirable**

- Experience of working within the NHS

### Qualifications

**Essential**

- Level 3 qualification in a health care related subject Or  Equivalent experience and can evidence work based competency demonstrating theoretical knowledge, and the ability to undertake  clinical care duties relevant for the role which is gained through experience and worked based training/short courses.
