This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced, motivated, and compassionate nurse to join the Oncology SACT Nurse Practitioner team and contribute to our shared vision of delivering consistently outstanding, patient-centred care. The successful candidate will play a key role in providing high-quality treatment and support, ensuring the best possible experience and outcomes for patients throughout their cancer journey.

This post requires an enhanced level of clinical practice within a specialist role that demands in-depth cancer knowledge, skills, and post-registration training. The post holder will be expected to demonstrate expertise in areas such as cancer treatment administration, management of treatment-related side effects, and site-specific or pathway-specific care.

This post will include a structured induction and a clear, personalised development programme through which the individual will complete the required education and develop the skills, knowledge, and confidence needed for SACT assessment. This will be achieved through a period of supernumerary learning, teaching sessions, regular one-to-one meetings, constructive feedback, and mentorship from the wider team.

### Main duties of the job

As an Oncology SACT Nurse Practitioner (Band 6) you

- require a critical understanding of detailed theoretical and practical knowledge
- may have specialist knowledge, skills and capabilities related to sphere of practice
- within a set scope of practice consult with patients, their family and the multi-professional team to undertake assessment of patient need and devise and evaluate complex care plans
- evaluate and analyse clinical problems using their clinical knowledge, seeking out and applying relevant evidence, enhanced techniques, interventions and equipment to make clinical decisions
- deliver enhanced clinical care in the context of continual change, challenging environments, different models of care delivery, innovation and rapidly evolving technologies using analysis
- teach and advise patients and their families on how to manage their condition or support the multidisciplinary team to do so
- participate in clinical audits and research projects and implement changes as required, supporting the development, and updating of practice protocols/ guidelines and procedures locally
- work within national and local protocols where these exist
- recognise the boundaries of their practice and know when and to whom patients should be referred
- demonstrate initiative and are creative in finding solutions to problems
- have some responsibility for team performance and service development and consistently undertake self-development

### Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Clinical Responsibilities/Key Responsibilities

Work collaboratively with nurse practitioners, pharmacists, and medical colleagues to assess patient fitness for Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapy (SACT) through comprehensive patient assessments, including daily contact with patients and their relatives both face to face and telephone clinics.

Professional Development, Education and Training

Will be required to develop knowledge and skills in order to hold the following

Non-medical prescribing (independent prescriber) Physical Assessment & Clinical Reasoning (PACR) Pathophysiology and Diagnostic Reasoning for Advanced Practice (PADRAP) Local competencies in SACT assessment and prescribing

Management and Leadership

To work, influence and challenge across professional and multidisciplinary boundaries to ensure best practice and empowerment of patients and their carers

Work collaboratively as part of the SACT Assessment Team and the wider Oncology Department to deliver high-quality, safe, patient-centred care.

Research and Development

Participate and lead on audits, service evaluations, research and quality improvement initiatives and disseminate learning into routine clinical practice/wider team.

Communications and Working Relationships

Work effectively alongside both SACT nurse practitioners, pharmacists and medical colleagues to provide assessment of fitness for SACT – this role will include daily contact with patients and their relatives via telephone clinics for SACT assessment

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.

## Person Specification

### Essential and Desirable

**Essential**

- Registered Nurse with active NMC registration
- Educated to degree level in a relevant subject
- Substantial post registration experience in Oncology/SACT with an interest in SACT assessment
- A good understanding of cancer specific disease pathways, symptoms of disease, treatments and potential side effects
- Demonstrable independent and team working abilities
- Excellent communication/interpersonal skills

**Desirable**
