Position: An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Nurse Practitioner based at University Hospital Ayr & Crosshouse. This post is offered on a permanent basis. Hours: 2x 30 hours per week. Flexibility can be offered with hours. Job share will be considered for this post. From 1 April 2026, the working week for NHS Agenda for Change staff in Scotland will be reduced. Full-time hours will reduce from 37 to 36 hours (pro rata for part-time staff) without loss of earnings. UK Driving Licence: A UK driving licence is essential for this role. What you will do: The post holder will be accountable for the assessment; development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care for a defined caseload of patients using evidence-based practice for the benefit of patients undergoing surgery. Working collaboratively the department assesses patients on an individualised basis to ensure they are appropriately prepared for their planned operative procedure. Knowledge, training and/or experience required for this post: The post holder will be a registered nurse with current NMC registration, educated to degree level or actively working towards. A recognised qualification in clinical assessment is a mandatory requirement of the job. If not already attained there will be a requirement to undertake and work towards this qualification within a recognised timeframe of 12-18months You will have excellent time management, communication and interpersonal skills. You will be creative and enthusiastic and possess a “can do” attitude when providing the best care and experience to patients within our department. You will also have excellent organisational skills and the ability to work independently, displaying maturity and understanding in progressing issues and solving problems, making use of your clinical decision-making skills. You will have the ability and confidence to work collaboratively with other departments and members of the multidisciplinary team involved with the pre-operative assessment, optimisation and preparation of patients from all surgical specialties.
