An exciting opportunity has arisen within The Sussex Adults Eating Disorder Team (SEDS) for a Nurse Consultant.

The post holder will provide treatment for community-based SEDS providing clinical leadership to the care of adults with a diagnosed Eating Disorder; SEDS is commissioned to treat Atypical Anorexia, Anorexia Nervosa, Binge Eating Disorder and Bulimia Nervosa.  The post is based at East Brighton Mental Health Centre and has spoke sites across the region to enable practitioners to provide place based treatment. SEDS provides in-reach support to adult mental health liaison services for patients receiving treatment in Acute hospitals across the counties as per MEED guidelines.

This post establishes the nursing leadership of the team. You will provide strategic clinical leadership for nursing and work with the senior leadership team and other professionals of the ED Service. You are expected to take an active part in the development of governance arrangements in order to ensure the highest possible clinical standards are delivered across the service and that care is proactive, innovative and progressive. You will be an advocate for parity of esteem for those with mental health needs.

You will work with relevant partners and SPFT colleagues to develop and deliver the strategy for nursing.

The post holder will bring a bio- psycho - social perspective to the Multi-Disciplinary Team ensuring the systematic provision of high-quality specialist treatment to Adults.

- To provide senior nurse leadership to the nursing staff of the Eating Disorders service
- Provide leadership, motivation and vision in the development and implementation of care pathways for patients of the Eating Disorders service.
- Will work across inter-service boundaries, developing effective relationships with other disciplines and agencies eg: MHLT's, general hospitals, CRHTTs, NMHTs.
- To provide strategic clinical leadership in relation to the monitoring and management of clinical risk and ensure that protocols are in place to manage patients care and to ensure staff within the teams practice accordingly.
- To be responsible for providing training to the staff in physical monitoring of patients with eating disorders and associated physical risk management.
- Co-lead with the service consultant psychiatrist in the development and implementation of clinical policies and protocols in the Eating Disorder service.
- Advise and lead on the future planning of strategic directions and service developments in relation to nurse led and multi-disciplinary care in the Eating Disorder service.
- To use advanced theoretical and practical knowledge gained from postgraduate study in order to develop Eating Disorders Services

- Provide clinical leadership in relation to the monitoring and management of clinical risk, challenging non-evidence-based practice and leading change.
- Act as a role model to help colleagues develop advanced knowledge and skills relating to specialist care.
- Provide consultancy and support to the Eating Disorders services and other appropriate teams in dealing with complex and distressing situations and acutely deteriorating patients.
- Ensure that staff within the service are receiving clinical supervision, providing this where required and offering coaching and mentorship.
- Participate in clinical supervision, as a supervisor and supervisee
- Hold a clinical caseload of those with complex needs and requiring advanced intervention, within a patient population using a high level of dexterity and accuracy in providing technical and clinical interventions aimed at improving services and patient outcomes.
- To communicate highly complex and sensitive information using the highest level of interpersonal and communication skills, such as would be required when dealing with patients (and their relatives) with life limiting conditions and poor prognosis.
- To provide an expert interface between acute and primary care to facilitate appropriate admission avoidance and early discharge of patients from acute units. To foster strong links and working relationships with key medical staff in acute providers of service
