The Northern Health and Social Care Trust (NHSCT) is responsible for the delivery of safe and effective health and social care (HSC) services to the population of the Northern Trust area in Northern Ireland.

### JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB TITLE: Care Assistant

BAND: Band 3

DIRECTORATE/DIVISION: Community Care Division

INITIAL LOCATION: Antrim Day Centre, Antrim

REPORTS TO: Day Centre Manager via Duty Day Care Worker

ACCOUNTABLE TO: Director of Community Care Division

### JOB SUMMARY

To assist senior staff in the provision of programmes of care, providing a holistic service to clients and attending to their assessed personal needs. Escorting clients on bus runs as necessary.

### KEY RESULT AREAS / MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

Participate in formal and informal supervision and attend and contribute to staff meetings.

Providing where appropriate, personal assistance to members such as bathing, washing, toileting, feeding etc, ensuring privacy, dignity and rights of the client and maintaining written records of these.

Report to the Senior Officer untoward incidents, eg; falls, accidents, complaints etc and maintaining a written record of same.

Assisting in the planning and provision of individual and group programmes of care and social rehabilitation to enable them to remain living in their own home.

Ensure the detail of care plans are followed, when working with clients with physical, mental or emotional care needs, including those with behavioural issues.

In relation to health, safety and welfare of residents adhere to risk assessments and report any new or further risks you discover to the Senior Officer on duty. Likewise, report any faulty equipment and take out of use.

Participate in RVQ training as well as in-house/external training as appropriate to your role. To complete all mandatory training and update own knowledge base and take responsibility for personal development as required. (NISCC Codes/Requirement).

Prepare for and participate in formal supervision sessions as well as in the knowledge and skills framework (KSF) and annual appraisal, ensuring that personal training and development logs are kept up to date.

Assist with the serving of meals and snacks.

Assist with and adhere to various audits within the Unit as requested by Management.

Courteously answer telephone and record messages in book provided.

Assist with the admission/discharge of clients, listing clothing and assisting with the orientation of new clients.

Participate in group and leisure activities ensuring active listening and talking with service users.

Contribute to client reviews and participate in review meetings/case conferences when required to do so.

Responsibility to register and maintain registration with the appropriate governing/registration body and ensure strict adherence to their codes of practice, eg: NISCC.

Work within and to RQIA standards.

Participate in transport/driving duties as required.

Contribute to maintenance of records required by the Trust.

### RECORDS MANAGEMENT

All employees of the Northern Health & Social Care Trust are legally responsible for all records held, created or used as part of their business within the Northern Health and Social Care Trust, including patient/client, corporate and administrative records whether paper based or electronic and also including e-mails. ### SALARY

Band 3 £24,937 - £26,598 per annum (pro-rata for part-time).

### HOURS

Normal full-time hours of duty are 37½ hours per week, exclusive of meal times

### MEDICAL

Appointment will be subject to a successful pre-employment health assessment.

27 days each year; 29 days after 5 years’ service; 33 days after 10 years’ service and 10 statutory and public holidays.

### PENSION

### PROBATIONARY PERIOD

You will serve a probationary period of normally six months.

### WAITING LIST

A waiting list will be created to cover any permanent – temporary – full time – part time – bank vacancies arising in the next 6 months within Antrim Day Centre.

### PAY PROTECTION

Legacy Trust Staff who apply for a promotion after 1 April 2011 should be aware that they will lose their legacy protection arrangements and will be entitled to pay protection in accordance with circular HSS (JNF)(1) 2011. This circular will also apply to legacy staff who are currently in receipt of protection and who move post on promotion.

Six months experience in a caring role and be willing to undertake and successfully complete RVQ in Health and Social Care Level 2 within a timeframe agreed with management.

RVQ Level II in Health and Social Care

OR

GNVQ/BTEC National Certificate or higher qualification in Health and Social care

Permanent appointees who do not hold at least NVQ Level II or equivalent, will be appointed on the condition that they will successfully complete the NVQ Level II in a timescale agreed by management. The requirement to achieve the NVQ qualification is laid down by NHSSB Circular DSS 1/94.

By date of appointment applicant must be listed or eligible to be registered on NISCC Register of Social Care Workers and within 3 months of date of commencement in post, registration with NISCC must be fully complete.

Hold a current full driving licence which is valid for use in the UK and have access to a car on appointment. This criteria will be waived in the case of applicants whose disability prohibits driving but who have access to a form of transport approved by the Trust which will permit them to carry out the duties of the post.
