The Neurosurgical referral centre in North West London provides specialist neurosurgical investigations, treatments & expert medical, nursing & therapy care. 11 South is an acute neurosurgical ward specializing in pre & post-operative care of patients receiving brain & spinal surgery. We have close links to Major trauma and ICU and take care of both elective and emergency neurosurgical patients. ### Main duties of the job - Carry out planned care for a group of patients without direct supervision. - Ensure the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of evidence based, individualised patient care. - Have an awareness of safe staffing and skill mix and how to escalate concerns. - Assist in the orientation of new staff and students. - Ensure that nursing practices comply with Trust policies and procedures. - Assess the needs of patients, relatives and carers and provide them with information as requested. - Assist in the teaching and development of nursing assistants, students and junior staff, helping them to achieve their learning outcomes. - To keep up to date with current developments in nursing and ensure evidence based practice. - Develop new skills and knowledge pertaining to the speciality as advised by the senior sister or charge nurse. ### Detailed job description and main responsibilities The full job description provides an overview of the key tasks and responsibilities of the role and the person specification outlines the qualifications, skills, experience and knowledge required.
