* Flexible working opportunities

* Supportive medical & clinical colleagues and approachable leadership

### Main duties of the job

This post offers an excellent opportunity for a doctor at IMT3-equivalent level to gain broad experience in Neurology within a supportive District General Hospital. The postholder will join a compassionate team that values supervision, professional development and multidisciplinary working.

The successful candidate will contribute to inpatient care, ward rounds, referrals, outpatient clinics and the lumbar puncture service. The role provides a balanced mix of service delivery and development while reflecting the scope of a DGH neurology service.

Working closely with consultant neurologists and colleagues, the postholder will assess and manage a wide range of neurological conditions, including exposure to acute neurology, follow-up planning, clinic work and procedural experience.

There will be opportunities to develop areas of interest, including outpatient practice, lumbar puncture expertise, quality improvement and teaching. This role is ideal for strengthening neurology experience within a supportive, patient-centred environment.

### Detailed job description and main responsibilities

1.    Provide high-quality day-to-day medical care for neurology inpatients under the supervision of consultant neurologists and in close collaboration with resident doctors, nursing staff and allied health professionals.

2.    Clerk non-elective patients admitted under Neurology and support the assessment, investigation, treatment and ongoing review of patients with acute and chronic neurological presentations.

3.    Participate in regular neurology ward rounds and ensure that agreed management plans are implemented, clearly documented and communicated.

4.    Review and respond to inpatient neurology referrals from other specialties across the Trust, seeking senior advice promptly where appropriate.

5.    Contribute to safe and timely patient flow through effective clinical decision-making, proactive discharge planning and completion of accurate electronic discharge summaries.

6.    Support outpatient neurology activity through participation in general neurology clinics, with opportunities to develop confidence in ambulatory and follow-up care under supervision.

7.    Contribute to the lumbar puncture service, including elective lumbar puncture lists and acute lumbar punctures where clinically indicated, with training and supervision provided according to experience.

8.    Where service needs and supervision allow, develop procedural and specialty-specific skills relevant to a DGH neurology service, including potential exposure to botulinum toxin practice and other focused areas of neurology care.

9.    Work collaboratively with consultant neurologists, physicians, emergency medicine colleagues, radiology, therapy teams and specialist nurses to provide coordinated and compassionate care.

10. Liaise effectively with patients, relatives and carers, ensuring communication is clear, respectful and aligned with Trust values.

11. Take an active role in teaching and supporting Foundation doctors, resident doctors, medical students and other learners attached to the department.

12. Participate fully in clinical governance, including audit, quality improvement, incident reporting, guideline development, risk management and reflective practice.

13. Attend departmental meetings, teaching sessions, governance meetings and other postgraduate educational activities relevant to the post.

14. Maintain accurate clinical records and comply with Trust policies, professional standards and statutory requirements.

15. Work flexibly with colleagues to provide mutual support within the department and contribute to a positive, kind and inclusive team culture.
