- NMC Registration (Adult or Children’s Nurse)
- Experience in neonatal care (further training will be provided)
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Competent in giving IV medications
- Competent, or willing to gain competence, to take peripheral blood samples
- Experience of supervising non-registered staff

## Person Specification

### Experience

**Essential**

- Supervision of non registered staff and students
- Previous experience with a neonatal patient group
- Experience in feeding babies including breast and nasogastric tube feeding
- Blood taking competency

### Physical Skills

**Essential**

- Dexterity and accuracy in undertaking clinical skills, use of equipment and documentation
- Competent and capable of using medical equipment
- Able to undertake patient and non-patient manual handling manoeuvres

### Training & Qualifications

**Essential**

- Current Level 1 NMC registration
- Competent in medicines management
- Up to date with annual mandatory NLS training

**Desirable**

- NLS provider
- Qualified in Speciality or related subject

### Analytical and Judgement Skills

**Essential**

- Demonstrate an ability to assess, plan, deliver, prioritise and evaluate patient care
- Ability to identify own learning needs
- Demonstrate an understanding of the staff nurse’s role

### Planning and Organisation Skills

**Essential**

- Demonstrate an ability to prioritise own workload and recognise, prioritise and respond appropriately to urgent and emergency situations

### Communication and Relationship Skills

**Essential**

- Demonstrate effective written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrate basic IT skills
