Neonatal Services at UHMBT are provided from both Furness General Hospital and Royal Lancaster Infirmary sites and are part of the North West Neonatal Operational Delivery Network.

The Special Care Baby Unit at Furness General Hospital is integrated into the South Lakes Birth Centre and has a cot capacity of 4. We provide care to babies and their families from 32 weeks gestation but also provide stabilisation for critically ill babies/babies born below 32 weeks in preparation for transfer by the regional transport team.

The Neonatal Unit at the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI) is a level 2 unit with 1 intensive care cot, 2 High Dependency cots and 7 Special Care cots. Both sites have a well developed transitional care service which enables babies and their mothers to stay together when requiring additional support.

The base site for this post is Furness General Hospital, however there may be a requirement to work on the LNU at Royal Lancaster Infirmary.

The post holder:

The post requires experience, knowledge and skills of working in a neonatal unit at senior level. The successful candidate will lead/coordinate shifts, be able to work well independently and within the team and support junior staff as well as pre-registration student nurses.

There are opportunities for you to undertake a quality role in an area of interest and participate in network specialist interest groups, which will both enhance your own professional development and improve care for babies and families.

We promote UNICEF baby friendly standards and family integrated care and are working towards stage 2 BFI accreditation.

Staff work closely alongside the Maternity and Paediatric teams.

- Recent experience at senior staff nurse level within neonatal nursing
- Evidence of clinical competence in neonatal nursing skills
- Evidence of ability to assume a lead clinical role
- Understanding of the setting and monitoring of standards
