Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust is pleased to invite applications from enthusiastic and motivated Band 4 Nurse Associates to join our highly respected Neonatal Service.

As part of our well‑established, integrated multidisciplinary team, you will contribute to the delivery of tertiary‑level neonatal care across both the Queen’s Medical Centre and the City Hospital Local Neonatal Unit. Our service provides specialist care to some of the most vulnerable babies and their families, and we are committed to delivering safe, compassionate, and evidence‑based practice.

### Main duties of the job

### About the Role

Your role would be to support the registered nurse in the contribution to on-going assessment, treatment and care planning for patients. To adhere to the Nursing and Midwifery Code of Conduct for Nurses, Midwives and Nursing Associates and work within their scope of practice following the professional standards of practice and behaviours for nurses, midwives and nursing associates and the standards of proficiency.

### Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Both of our Neonatal units are involved in teaching and clinical research with strong links with the University of Nottingham, and Nottingham Trent university. We are also the lead Neonatal Unit for the North Hub of the East Midlands Neonatal Operational Delivery Network which allows us to link with other Neonatal Units in the East Midlands such as Derby, Mansfield, Lincoln and Boston. Working closely with these units allows all babies in the network to receive the care they require and, should the need arise; they can be transferred between hospitals.

The Nursing Associate works independently under the supervision of Registered Nurses, working within the sphere of nursing and care and within all aspects of the nursing process. Nursing Associates are equipped with the knowledge, understanding, skills, attitudes and behaviours relevant to employment as a Nursing Associate. Nursing Associates will adhere to the Nursing and Midwifery Code of Conduct for Nurses, Midwives and Nursing Associates and work within their scope of practice following the professional standards of practice and behaviours for nurses, midwives and nursing associates and the standards of proficiency for nursing Associates. The Nursing Associate will contribute to the health and wellbeing of our patients and service users and this can apply across all healthcare settings. Integral to this role is the ability to communicate effectively, with sensitivity and compassion and to manage relationships with people, making reasonable adjustments where necessary.

### Experience

**Essential**

- Understand the scope of the role of the Nursing Associate in the context of the team and the organisation and how the role contributes to service development

### Physical skills

**Essential**

- Dexterity and accuracy in undertaking clinical skills, use of equipment and documentation
- Competent and capable of using medical equipment
- Able to undertake patient manual handling manoeuvres and non-patient manual handling manoeuvres

**Desirable**

- Evidence of moving and handling training

### Training and Qualifications

**Essential**

- Registered Nursing Associate on the NMC register
- Educated to a minimum level 5 foundation degree level specific to Nursing Associate practice

### Analytical and Judgement skills

**Essential**

- Demonstrate an ability to contribute to the assessment, planning and delivery of patient care, to also demonstrate the ability to prioritise and evaluate patient care
- Ability to identify own learning needs
- Demonstrate an understanding of the nursing associate role; Understands and acts in line with the NMC professional standards for practice contained within the code; Knowledge of when to seek advice and escalate to the appropriate professional for expert help and advice;
- Ability to participate in reflective practice and understand the requirements for NMC Revalidation;
- Understands the importance of following procedures and treatment plans

**Desirable**

- Demonstrate a knowledge of current issues related to the NHS

### Planning and organisation skills

**Essential**

- Demonstrate an ability to prioritise own workload and recognise, prioritise and respond appropriately to urgent and emergency situations

### Communication and relationship skills

**Essential**

- Demonstrate effective written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrate basic IT skills recognition of own level of competence and limitations and able to communicate these to appropriate staff
