Job summary

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be responsible for carrying out interventional procedures, breast ultrasound, and film meeting within the breast symptomatic and screening service. They will be an expert in their clinical role and be part of the breast senior leadership team, managing staff on a day-to-day basis were necessary. Together with the breast radiology consultants and lead radiographer, the successful candidate will work to promote the service and develop policy and procedures, instigating and carrying out audit and service development in line with best practice and national regional and local guidelines.

The post-holder will provide and facilitate expert level of care to patients presenting with breast disease. They will exercise a degree of professional autonomy in the decision-making process that will improve a patient outcome.

The post-holder must adhere to the Healthcare Professional Council and the Society of Radiographers code of conduct, local trust policies, protocol and guidelines and be actively involved in clinical supervision.

Job responsibilities

Information about the symptomatic breast Service

The symptomatic breast imaging services is provided at St James's Hospital. It is an integral part of the breast outpatient clinic and provides one stop clinics. The service is busy and sees approximately 170 to 200 new patients per week. In addition, the service provides imaging for follow-up breast cancer patients and family history surveillance. The unit provides advanced imaging techniques such as vacuum assisted biopsies, contrast examinations, including contrast biopsies and it is actively involved in research and innovation.

Information about the breast screening service

The Leeds and Wakefield breast screening service has various mobile mammography units and static sites across the area. The breast assessment unit is based at Seacroft Hospital and delivers assessment clinics where a variety of techniques examination to be performed
