### Job overview

This post is for a Minimally Invasive Colorectal Surgery Fellow to work within the Colorectal and General Surgery Unit at the Royal Berkshire Hospital alongside, and under supervision of, the colorectal consultants

The Fellow will gain extensive experience in robotic and laparoscopic coloretal surgery and TAMIS procedures for early rectal cancer and complex polyps. However the Fellow will be involved in all aspects of this service including cancer, inflammatory bowel disease and pelvic floor surgery. The department also undertakes a wide range of coloproctology procedures and runs courses in the modern management of haemorrhoids such as HALO Trilogy

### Main duties of the job

The fellow will be expected to be involved in all aspects of the Trust’s clinical and academic activities including operative and ward-based teaching of juniors including Core Surgical (CT) and Medical Specialty Registrars (SpR).   The position aims to develop competence in minimally invasive colorectal procedures and the Fellow will have the opportunity to work with a number of trainers during the year and will develop their skills in laparoscopic resections, TAMIS procedures and robotic resections.

The Fellow would be expected to participate in the weekly colorectal cancer MDT meetings, monthly departmental clinical governance meetings, bimonthly IBD MDT meetings and monthly abdominal wall reconstruction MDT meetings.

### Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The main reponsibilities of the fellow will be :-   - participation in regular theatre lists - participation in outpatient clinics  - participation in Endoscopy lists -  Involed in Trust clinical and academic activities - ward based teaching of Juniros, including Core Surgical (CT) and Medical Specialty registrars (SpR)  -  have an opportunity to achieve robotic competencies via the Intuitive Acedemic Program (depending on previous experience) - involve managerment experience relatin to the General Surgical Department

### Experience

**Essential**

- Experience in surgery at senior SpR level
- Ability to offer clinical opinion on a range of problems in colorectal disease
- Ability to take responsibility for clinical care of patients with colorectal conditions

**Desirable**

- Research with higher degree ideally in the field of colorectal surgery
- Experience of MDT working

### Disposition

**Essential**

- Clarity of career aims, in particular reasons for choosing fellowship post in colorectal surgery
- Evidence of being a good team member
- Active interest in research and audit
- Ability to organise and manage priorities

- Leadership qualities

### Qualifications

**Essential**

- Full registration with the GMC/eligible for registration within 6 months of CCST in (Speciality) at interview date
- FRCS or equivalent
- NTN in general surgery
- within 6 months of CCT date
- Demonstration of specialist training in Colorectal Surgery

**Desirable**

- JAG accreditation for Colonoscopy

### Knowledge & Skills

**Essential**

- Evidence of good written and verbal communication skills
- Teaching training

**Desirable**

- Ability and enthusiasm to teach medical undergraduates and Allied Health Professionals
- Personal participation in audit
- Ability to apply research outcomes to clinical problems
