### Job overview

Lead the 24 hour provision of high quality women centred care across the midwifery community services. Act as an expert resource and role model for the team within their service to support them in the delivery of effective care.

Be responsible for ensuring a good environment in which all women and families receive a high standard of care which is compassionate and takes account of their individual needs and wishes.

Demonstrate clinical leadership in the management of both low and high risk complex maternity care.

Identify and facilitate strategies for service improvement, develop initiatives and organisational change, contributing to the clinical governance and risk management agenda by ensuring best practice is evident.

Implement and follow HR policies regarding workforce management.

Be responsible for ensuring safe deployment of resources to meet and comply with professional midwifery standards, governance, quality and patient safety within the budget set.

An weekend/overnight on-call commitment will be required in support the safe running of the maternity service.

To continually act as a highly credible professional clinical leader being a strong professional role model for others to emulate at all times.

Be involved in the delivery of clinical care in a developmental capacity.

Be responsible for ensuring current practice is evidence based and continually updated.

Assist the Director of Midwifery, Deputy Director of Midwifery and Head of Midwifery in providing professional leadership, management and advice within the Family Health Care Group.

To take professional responsibility for the community Midwifery services, ensuring that all teams work collaboratively to deliver integrated care.

Support managers to ensure all areas are compliant with Trust and local training standards.

Continually monitor, evaluate and analyse the effectiveness of midwifery services.

To contribute to the promotion and maintenance of clinical benchmarking, ensuring sharing and development of best practice.

Promote a culture of working and integration of standards across the wider maternity service.

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.

### Experience

**Essential**

- Significant post registration experience including management and leadership experience
- Ability to demonstrate experience of leading or managing a service at Band 7 level
- Experience of delivering programmes of change
- Experience of leading & working with patient groups
- Able to provide specialised advice concerning patient care
- Knowledge of budgets/financial control
- Experience with Clinical Governance
- Experience with HR processes to manage sickness absence, performance, recruitment
- Demonstrates understanding of complex, obstetric led outpatient services and care

**Desirable**

- Project management experience
- Knowledge of complaints management
- Patient Partnership working
- Involvement with recruitment & retention
- Experience of working within obstetric led outpatient services
- Experience of managing complex safeguarding cases and joint MDT working

### Physical Skills

**Essential**

- IT skills to manage and report on complex performance management information

### Training & Qualifications

**Essential**

- Registered Midwife and First degree or equivalent in health related subject
- Evidence of CPD

**Desirable**

- Masters degree or equivalent post training
- Leadership training/qualification

### Analytical and Judgement Skills

- Experience of audit and audit tools
- Able to present and receive complex information within the multi professional team

### Planning and Organisational Skills

**Essential**

- Demonstrates strong organisational skills and abilities
- Ability to work on own initiative but also as part of a team
