The Registered Midwifery Degree Apprenticeship role offers opportunities for Maternity Support Workers and Healthcare Workers to progress into becoming Registered Midwives.  As part of the apprenticeship you will undertake clinical working on your base area, have placements within other clinical areas at DBTH and external to the Trust to broaden your knowledge and experience, along with attending university for your academic theory.  Following completion the post holder will be expected to complete the DBTH 12 month preceptorship programme to consolidate their learning as well as the midwifery preceptorship.

All applicants must submit an academic reference directly to \[email protected\] by close of business on 4 June 2026.

Internal applicants must arrange for letters of recommendation from both their Ward/Department Manager and Matron to be submitted directly to \[email protected\] by close of business on 4 June 2026. (Please use the template provided within the supporting documents.)

Applicants will also be required to provide all certificates listed within the person specification. Please ensure your original certificates are available for verification. Further instructions will be sent via email.

### Main duties of the job

Apprenticeship Salary B5 Annexe 21, progressing to Band 5 on completion of the apprenticeship and registration with the NMC

You will complete the 40 month Registered Midwife Degree Apprenticeship Programme at Huddersfield University .  Following completion the post holder will be expected to complete the Trust 12 month preceptorship and the midwifery preceptorship programmes.

They will develop and maintain the knowledge, skills and competencies related to the role of Registered Midwife through completion of the programme which will include being responsible, for the assessment of care needs, development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care.

This programme combines academic and work-based learning through close collaboration between DBTH and Huddersfield University.  A Registered Midwife Degree Apprentice will be based , as an employee, within DBTH in a specific setting, but will experience working in alternative settings at DBTH and external to the Trust in order to fulfil al the requirement of the programme.

Annual leave will be set around your plan of study and the remainder should be taken in line with Trust policy.  Any prebooked annual leave must be declared at interview.  Candidates must be able to arrange own transport to and from University and placements.

### Knowledge & Experience

**Essential**

- Experience working in an adult health/social care setting/midwifery setting
- In date statutory essential training
- Positive attitude to training and development

### Qualifications & Training

**Essential**

- Care Certificate or evidence of experienced in care
- Level 3 Extended Diploma in Health and Social Care (with a minimum of 4 units in Biological Sciences) or equivalent
- Be aged 18 years or older
- GCSE's Grade C/4 or above in Maths and English or equivalent i.e. Functionals skills level 2
- Commit to completing the Registered Midwifery Degree
