Our Maternity Services in Cornwall have recently been transformed with national recognition which we are immensely proud of. As a result, we have had overwhelming executive support to progress the strategy for our Maternity Transformation agenda. We are now looking for enthusiastic midwives to join our fabulous team to support our vision.

We can offer you the chance to gain experience in all areas of midwifery practice with one of our rotational posts. All our team members join an innovative multidisciplinary training week and we value our staff development. There are lots of opportunities to be involved with quality improvement initiatives we listen to you, your ideas and support you to action them. Our management approach is collaborative and respectful and we will support you to be the best you can be. We know that this is the only way that our women and their families will get the best care possible.

All interviews will be face to face.

### Main duties of the job

The role has been approved for advertising; however, it is also being assessed as a suitable alternative employment opportunity. As a result, the vacancy may be withdrawn or there may be a delay before shortlisting can begin.

This role is open to all applicants. However, in line with Cornwall First Recruitment principles, initial shortlisting will prioritise applicants from Royal Cornwall Hospitals Trust, Cornwall Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, and the Integrated Care Board for Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.

Our programme for newly qualified midwives (NQM's) comes highly recommended and has attracted some fantastic candidates. You will be supported by our Learning and Development Team which includes a Practice Development Midwife; a team of Clinical Skills Facilitators; and a Fetal Monitoring Specialist Midwife, as well as a  Professional Midwifery Advocate. In addition, all NQM's are allocated a Preceptor and a Team Leader.  A bespoke Midwifery update week ensures an emphasis on a multidisciplinary team approach to training and facilitates our strong learning culture. Regular point of care multidisciplinary simulations are also embedded into our working day.  Investing in your continued development is of paramount importance to us with a range of opportunities within the Trust in line with our "Being Brilliant" Trust-wide philosophy.

## Person Specification

### Experience

**Essential**

- Good level of post registration experience, including experience within relevant clinical environment/successful completion of Midwifery Degree
- Teaching, supervision and managerial experience for B6
- Experience of co-ordinating and managing patient care.

**Desirable**

- Previous experience of taking part in research and audit.
- Previous experience of change management and problem solving for B6
- Experience of handling and reporting clinical incidents and complaints.
- Previous experience in Quality Improvement Methdology

### Qualifications - Band 5/6

**Essential**

- Registered Midwife.
- Evidence of on-going relevant continuing professional development, linked to demonstrable clinical competencies for B6.
- Basic Life Support

**Desirable**

- Possession of a relevant degree or studying towards
- Assessing and mentoring qualification/B5 expectation
- Evidence of Alternative Therapies training/within training
- Newborn Life Support
- NIPE

### Skills / Knowledge expected

**Essential**

- Excellent midwifery clinical skills.
- Relevant specialist skills and abilities for the department e.g. phlebotomy, perineal suturing, Epidural Top Up.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Effective teaching, training and preceptorship skills.
- Thorough specialty knowledge relevant to the department.
- Thorough knowledge of the principles of infection prevention and control.
- Understanding of audit and research methodologies.
- Understanding of resource management, Health and Safety, clinical risk and quality issues.
- Knowledge of Child Protection issues.

- Appraisal skills.
