- Department: Obstetric Ultrasound & Fetal Medicine Unit

We are looking for a highly motivated midwife/obstetric sonographer to join our team of midwife sonographers at the obstetric ultrasound department / fetal medicine unit at Raigmore Hospital, Inverness.

Raigmore Hospital provides midwifery, obstetric and neonatal care to pregnant women and their families living in the Scottish Highlands. It covers a wide rural area of 12500 square miles and has approx 1800 births a year.

Our team of 4 midwife sonographers generate approx 11,000 scans per year. We are an independent and progressive team with a high degree of sonographer autonomy. We care about a quality assured service, participate in peer review and audit to maintain a high professional standard. For the past 6 months we have consistently achieved being in the top ten units UK wide for detection of the small for gestational age fetus. The sonographers are fully supported by our lead midwife sonographer.

We perform all obstetric examinations, including RCOG guidance on MCA PI and UAPI screening for small for gestational age babies. Our main workload includes EPAU, fetal medicine, maternal medicine, twins and specialist ANC’s, including our screening pathway scans and general obstetric growth scans, using Perinatal Institutes’ GROW package as part of saving babies lives care bundle v3.

In the Obstetric Ultrasound Department we have a range of high spec ultrasound equipment in the form of 7 Voluson E10 machines.

You will be a qualified midwife or have a relevant degree level qualification which has then led you on to a PGC minimum in obstetric ultrasound. You will need to provide evidence in your application of your performance in the quality assurance of first trimester screening. This can be evidenced by DQASS plot or equivalent and peer review tools used to assess image quality. You must be up to date in your practice, willing to undertake audit, teaching and mentorship when required. The post holder will be expected to work independently and produce diagnostic reports that provide the clinician with accurate clinical findings.

Part-time/job share hours would be considered. A relocation package may be available.
