We are looking for a Full time Mental Health Liaison Service Support, Time and Recovery Worker to join our team at the Dept of Psychological Medicine.

We are a well established, ageless, Liaison Psychiatry Service based within Hull Royal infirmary whilst also covering Castle Hill Hospital.

The Mental Health Liaison Service currently delivers comprehensive mental health assessments, brief intervention, care planning and signposting/referral for patients who present to the A&E department or who have been admitted to hospital. The team works closely with many community services in order to help collaboratively serve the needs of those with mental health difficulties.

Common presentations include suicidal ideation, deliberate self-harm, depression, dementia, alcohol misuse and psychosis. Due to the demands of acute care medicine, urgent care and ED pressures the work is diverse and fast paced and the support workers play a pivotal role in this.

The team operates on a 24 hour, 7 day a week basis and it is essential that the post holder is able to work unsocial hours, including night shifts and weekends on a pro rata basis.

### Main duties of the job

We are recently opened a bespoke Emergency Department 'streaming area' which functions as a safe and therapeutic space for some patient's attending the Emergency department and awaiting assessment by MHLS.  As a Support, Time and Recovery worker you will be an integral part of this  initiative.

As the post holder, you will be working as part of the multi-disciplinary team within the Emergency Department and also on the hospital wards. Your role will involve making first contact with patients referred to the service from the wards, supporting those awaiting assessment in the streaming area,  providing emotional support and psychosocial interventions through care plans to those patients referred to the Mental Health Liaison Service, assisting the qualified practitioners in the assessment of patient’s and also providing liaison to a wide variety of community services.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated people who are flexible and have excellent inter-personal and communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with patients, carers and staff.

You must be able to demonstrate a high standard of interpersonal skills including empathy, warmth and understanding and have a good knowledge of mental health issues. You must also be able to demonstrate experience of working with people experiencing mental health difficulties. Documentation skills must also be of a high standard.

### Experience

**Essential**

- Experience of working with people with mental health difficulties and/or a learning disability
- Experience of providing presentations and developing groupwork materials
- Awareness of local services and community provision

**Desirable**

- Experience of mental health services as a service user or carer
- Experience with data inputting e.g. electronic clinical record systems

### Skills and Competencies

**Essential**

- Evidence of inter-personal skills and the ability to form therapeutic relationships with services users and carers

### Qualifications and Knowledge

- To have an understanding of mental health or learning disability issues
