We are looking to recruit someone with enthusiasm, discretion and an eye for detail to support the Mental Health Legislation team within our trust as part of our existing team. The successful applicant will be assisting the Mental Health Legislation team in planning, communicating and ensuring the correct implementation of both the Mental Health Act and Mental Capacity Acts across the trust; as well as monitoring and ensuring an effective Mental Health Act Administration service is in place which is executed, monitored and reviewed in line with legislative and CQC requirements.

### Main duties of the job

This role involves the scrutiny and processing of legal documentation whilst maintaining key information systems with regard to patient records and legal documents. You will interact face to face, by phone and video platform with a wide range of people including: clinical staff, managers, Tribunal Members and patients' legal representatives across all services.

### Detailed job description and main responsibilities

- Under direction of the Mental Health Legislation Officers the Assistant will:
- Administer the Mental Health Act and support the team to administer the Mental Capacity Act.
- Maintain agreed Coventry and Warwickshire Partnership Trust systems and procedures which ensure that the Trust operates in accordance with the requirements of the law and accepted good practice.
- Minimise risk, maintaining and upholding best practice in compliance with the Mental Health Act/Mental Capacity Act.
- Provide support and advice to the Hospital Managers to enable them to carry out their statutory duties under Mental Health Act/Mental Capacity Act.
- Ensure Trust staff are informed of and are aware of developments in and their responsibility under the Mental Health Act/Mental Capacity Act.
- Act as a contact point for staff, patients, their carers and families who wish further information/advice on Mental Health Act/Mental Capacity Act.
- Support Coventry and Warwickshire Partnership Trust in the roll out to services of the Trusts computerised patient systems in relation to the Mental Health Act/Mental Capacity Act.

### Applicant requirements

The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.

### Qualifications

- NVQ level 4 in administration or EDCL or equivalent experience
- GCSE or equivalent in English & Maths

### Knowledge and skills

**Essential**

- Demonstrable Involvement in, or knowledge of application and administration of the MHA
- Knowledge of Confidentiality and associated legislation
- Knowledge of Health Records Management
- Good working knowledge of IT and MS Office Programmes
- Good keyboard skills
- Ability to work equally well as an effective team member and independently with minimum supervision.
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Effective organisational skills
