The Assistant Practitioner will function as part of the Multidisciplinary Team within the ward/department, to provide a seamless service to patients under the remote supervision of the Mental Health Clinical Specialist.

This will include caring for children and young people in mental health crisis and those with Eating disorders that are admitted to hospital for ongoing care.

To deliver targeted and therapeutic interventions to children with a mental, neurodevelopmental or eating disorder, as required within set protocols and within the scope of the Assistant Practitioner remit. This includes carrying out mental state and risk reviews under remote supervision and after appropriate delegation from the Mental Health Clinical Specialist. Plan and deliver high standards of individualised person-centred care.

To communicate effectively at all times within the team, with other health care professionals and with the patient, family, carers and all visitors.

Liaise and work with external organisations as required promoting partnership working to ensure holistic care is provided.

## Person Specification

### Education

**Essential**

- Foundation degree in Health Studies (Science) or academic equivalent, e.g. Diploma in higher education.

**Desirable**

- Apprenticeship in Health and Social Care or Health (which includes NVQ level 3).

### skills and knowledge

**Essential**

- Has a good understanding of common mental disorders and treatment.
- Understanding adherence to boundaries of practice and professional conduct.

**Desirable**

- Knowledge in relation to risk assessment.

### Knowledge and experience

**Essential**

- Significant experience of working with children with a mental health need.
- Significant experience of working within a healthcare environment.
- Experience in managing own workload in relation to individuals with a mental health need.
- Experience working within a multi-disciplinary team.

**Desirable**

- Experience in creating and reviewing risk assessments and care plans for individuals with complex mental health needs, escalating where required.
