A Band 7 Team Leader position is available within the Haringey Memory Service at St Ann’s Hospital, Tottenham. This role is suited to an experienced and enthusiastic mental health practitioner with a strong interest in older people’s mental health and dementia care. The post offers the chance to contribute to the development of the newly implemented Dementia Diagnosis to End of Life pathway.

The successful candidate will provide expert clinical and managerial leadership to a skilled multidisciplinary team, ensuring high‑quality care for older adults requiring memory assessments and support. Responsibilities include leading service improvement initiatives, meeting local and national performance targets, and conducting assessments and follow‑up reviews for patients with complex needs.

Experience in older adult care, multidisciplinary working, and applying organisational protocols is essential. Strong communication skills, confidence in presenting, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively with internal and external partners are required. The role also involves contributing to system updates and implementing new processes aligned with Trust priorities.

### Main duties of the job

- Provide professional, clinical, managerial, and supervisory leadership to the Haringey Memory Service team
- Be responsible for screening referrals to the service for assessment and diagnosis and assume responsibility for the coordination of referrals to team members and their workload management.
- Chair Haringey Memory Service referral meetings, business meetings and service development forums
- Ensure the Haringey Memory Service is adequately and safely staffed within the agreed establishment
- Develop and implement effective supervision and appraisal systems for all staff ensuring the implementation of the Knowledge & Skills Framework
- Ensure effective communication is established within the team and external departments, e.g., regular staff meetings, attendance at Head of Department meetings. OMG and appropriate Service Line meetings.
- Participate in the development of pathways within the Directorate to ensure joint working across services in the delivery of care to patients.

### Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Assess service users referred with memory problems using the agreed assessment protocol and tools.

All interventions (assessment and post diagnosis) to consider any specific physical, cultural, psychological, spiritual and age-related needs.

Work collaboratively with other service providers – health, social/community and voluntary, including using social care procedures to directly request community services when appropriate.

Contribute to the delivery of non-pharmacological post diagnostic interventions.

Maintain own personal and professional status by ensuring the requirements laid down by the relevant professional body (HCPC/NMC) e.g., registration and continuity of professional development.

Have an informed knowledge and understanding of the Mental Capacity Act 2005, including the Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards, and its application to the care and treatment of people with dementia and cognitive impairment, and therefore be able to offer appropriate advice to service users and their carers.

## Person Specification

### Experience

**Essential**

- Minimum of Three years post registration experience including mental health and older people
- Minimum of two years’ experience working with people with dementia and their carers at Band 6 level
- Experience of supervising/appraisal of junior staff/learners

**Desirable**

- Working experience in a community mental health setting
- Experience of managing a team/service
- Budget and resource management

### Qualifications

**Essential**

- Professional qualification; occupational therapy, RMN (3 years post qualification)
- Must be currently registered with appropriate professional body
- Evidence of ongoing CPD

**Desirable**

- Management and Leadership training
- Further study in the field of Dementia care
- Additional qualification in physical health care and psychopharmacology and medication management

### Knowledge and Skills

**Essential**

- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively both orally and in writing
- Ability to use and provide effective supervision in accordance with Trust policy
- Understanding and application of the use of IT systems in Health care organizations

**Desirable**

- Knowledge of the role of Memory Services in supporting people with dementia and their carers
- Demonstrate an extensive knowledge of evidence-based assessments and care planning for service users of a Memory Service
- Able to deal with difficult situations e.g. dealing with challenging behaviour and/or emotional patients or carers
