We are recruiting specialist medicines management technicians to work with the lead pharmacist for developmental paediatrics and senior technician to assist in the cost effective and safe use of medicines in the neurodiversity service

As service requires it you will also assist the ward based medicines management team

We are seeking registered pharmacy technicians with a desire to provide fundamental patient focused pharmacy services. You need to be methodical, work accurately and be passionate about upholding Trust values in order to provide the best possible service.

This role involves working directly with patients, families and multi-disciplinary teams on inpatient wards as a medicines management technician also supporting inpatient, outpatient when required.

### Main duties of the job

To be responsible for providing a safe, efficient, and accurate pharmacy service to neurodiversity and ward service as needed

- To support the Lead pharmacist for Developmental Paediatrics and Senior Technician in the delivery of safe and cost effective medicines use to the neurodiversity (ND) service Complete medicines reconciliation for patients accurately and safely under the care of ND service as well as those on wards To safely dispense and issue prescriptions to patients. To provide drug stock supplies to wards and departments using the automated drug storage systems where available. To review and supply medicines to patients on discharge from hospital
- To support the Lead pharmacist for Developmental Paediatrics and Senior Technician in the delivery of safe and cost effective medicines use to the neurodiversity (ND) service
- Complete medicines reconciliation for patients accurately and safely under the care of ND service as well as those on wards
- To safely dispense and issue prescriptions to patients.
- To provide drug stock supplies to wards and departments using the automated drug storage systems where available.

- To carry out final accuracy checks of clinically screened prescriptions dispensed by others as part of maintaining competency
- To provide complex information and advice to patients and carers on the use and supply of their medicines.
- To support and deliver departmental training packages to student pharmacy technicians, pharmacy technicians, Pre-registration pharmacists and pharmacy assistants.

### Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Community Division:

- Responsible for reviewing and closing medicines related incidents that do not require clinical input
- Monitor incident trends and generate reports for divisional governance under supervision of Senior Technician
- Carry out pill school clinics under the direction of Lead Pharmacist and Senior Technician
- Support the senior technician in medicines initialisation clinic counselling session
- Supporting prescription management team with the queries escalating to clinical staff when required
- Working closely with PCO to inform patients of prescription pathway and improve communication
- Maintain data analytics of prescriptions
- Liaising with community pharmacies around prescription issues
- Supporting admin team in phone queries relating to prescriptions escalating to clinical staff when required
- Under the supervision of senior technician develop and run medication workshops for ND team and patients/parent groups
- Support in developing and maintaining RPA process for repeat prescriptions
- Stock updates and gather information on new drug availability based on cost and clinical effectiveness
- Support with patient information development with the Lead Pharmacist and Senior Technician
- Support with SOP development with the Lead Pharmacist and Senior Technician
- Support the lead pharmacist and senior technician with the agreed audit workstreams
- Support in maintaining Prescription list for nurses
- With the Senior Technician generate appropriate safety alerts related to medicines used within the ND service
- Support in admin training for medication related documentation

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.

### Proof of registration with General Pharmaceutical Council

**Essential**

- NVQ Level 3 Pharmacy Services & BTEC in Pharmaceutical Science
- Registered with the Pharmaceutical Council
- Level 4/Equivalent dispensary accuracy checking qualification
- Demonstrated experience of supervising pharmacy technicians and assistants
- Previous experience of ‘Near Patient Pharmacy’ and POD’s
- Good understanding of the job description and expectations of the role
- Ability to communicate effectively and in a professional manner with patients and staff
- Ability to work effectively within various teams and alone.
- Ability to solve complex technical problems
- Good working knowledge of safe dispensing practices and responsible attitude to quality and accuracy

**Desirable**

- Experience of working within a hospital pharmacy setting
- Ability to adapt to different computer packages
- Pro-active approach to the extended roles for technicians
- NPP ward-based / Medicines Reconciliation training
- Demonstrated experience of maintaining stock control systems
- Previous experience of completing department projects and audits
- Experience of counselling patients about their medicines and understanding potential side effects
