We are looking to recruit a Medical Laboratory Technician in Cellular Pathology. You will support our friendly team to provide the best possible service to patients across the region.

Cellular Pathology is a busy department, receiving around 35000 histopathology and non-gynaecological requests each year and performing over 120000 tests.

You will be working alongside Biomedical Scientists and Pathologists; the ability to work well in a team is of paramount importance and good communication and organisational skills and the ability to work under pressure are required.

Part of the role will include providing training and support for the MLA team and any other member of staff where appropriate. T

Excellent IT skills are a requirement for this post as the candidate will work alongside colleagues to implement digital slide scanning. Full training will be provided.

Working hours are 35 hours per week, this will be worked over a 6/7 day rotation including weekends and bank holidays.

- The role supports the hospital’s laboratory service by helping with everyday tasks that keep tests running smoothly.
- You will handle patient samples, label them, enter details on the computer and prepare them for testing.
- You will work with different teams in Pathology and may move between the department’s three laboratory sites.
- You will follow written and verbal instructions, keep good records and help look after equipment and supplies.
- You will take part in out-of-hours shifts, including evenings, nights and weekends, once trained.
- You must always follow safety rules and help keep the working area clean and well organised.

- Manual dexterity
- Interpersonal skills
- Able to work under pressure and remain calm
- Maintain duties requiring physical effort (similar to microtomy) for prolonged periods
- Capable of self-directed learning

- Experience of microtomy or embedding

### Knowledge

- Theoretical knowledge of basic histology processes
- Awareness of H&S relating to cellular pathology
- Good understanding of patient confidentiality

- Data entry experience Access databases

- Evidence of training others

- - Vocational Level 2 Qualification e.g., BTEC (or equivalent or higher) in an appropriate subject
