Applications are warmly welcomed for a one-year, fixed term, part time Medical Glaucoma Specialty Doctor post, ideally commencing in early August 2026. The post is designed to glaucoma ophthalmology services for patients attending Weston General Hospital.

The BEH is a highly regarded Regional Centre for Ophthalmology which sits within the Division of Surgery at UHBW (recently rated Outstanding by the CQC). It provides a tertiary referral service for glaucoma, as well as providing support for the glaucoma care of patients in the closely linked supra-regional corneal, vitreoretinal, uveitis and paediatric services. The service is supported by a highly developed and pioneering optometry shared-care service, as well as a well-integrated electronic patient record with long-standing historical data.

### Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be expected to play an active role in the running of the service. They will also be expected to participate in the workload of the hospital and be capable of working to a flexible timetable.

## Person Specification

### Skills and Abilities

**Essential**

- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work constructively and respectfully with patients, consultants, trainees, nurses, optometrists and allied health professionals.
- Demonstrated ability to work reliably within a team-based service, including engagement with rota commitments, handover processes and shared responsibility for service delivery.
- Willingness to participate fully in departmental educational activity, including teaching, audit, quality improvement and clinical governance meetings.
- Evidence of insight into personal strengths and limitations, with a commitment to supervision, feedback and progressive development.

### Additional and Aptitudes

**Essential**

- Demonstrates professionalism, reliability and integrity in clinical practice.
- Resilient, adaptable and able to work productively in a high-volume tertiary referral service.
- Alignment with Trust values, including respect, collaboration, openness to change and shared responsibility for patient care and service delivery.
- Be able to speak fluent English to an appropriate standard

**Desirable**

- Demonstrated curiosity, enthusiasm and reflective practice consistent with a clinician at an advanced training stage.

### Knowledge and Experience

**Essential**

- Good knowledge of general ophthalmology, with specialist registrar training for ophthalmology and glaucoma (STR)

### Qualifications and Training

**Essential**

- Applicants should already have CCT or equivalent by the time of the start date.
- Full registration with the General Medical Council, with a licence to practise.
- Eligibility to work in the UK.

**Desirable**

- Authorship or contribution to peer-reviewed publications, presentations or ongoing research projects.
- Interest in developing an academic or research portfolio alongside clinical training.
