We are seeking to recruit a permanent Medical engineer to support the existing teams working within Clinical Technology. The successful applicant must have an engineering background, specifically with experience in service engineering and maintenance. The successful applicant must be qualified to a minimum of HNC level or equivalent experience in a relevant engineering subject and hold a valid full UK manual driving licence.

The department of Clinical Technology provides a comprehensive medical equipment management and maintenance service to the University Hospital of North Midlands (UHNM) and external healthcare bodies. Based at both the Royal Stoke University Hospital and County Hospital sites, the department consists of multidisciplinary teams of medical engineers,  which provide medical equipment maintenance and support to services across the organisation and to other local healthcare providers.

### Main duties of the job

The post holder will be an integral member of the newly established Beds Team within Clinical Technology, supporting the safe and effective maintenance, testing, repair, and deployment of hospital beds and associated accessories across the Trust.

Working under the direction of the Beds Team Leader, the role will deliver day‑to‑day technical activities in line with Trust policies, agreed procedures, manufacturers’ instructions, and relevant standards. The post holder will contribute to ensuring that beds are safe, fit for purpose, and available to support clinical services, with a strong focus on patient safety and service continuity.

The role will involve planned preventative maintenance, asset tracking, and accurate record keeping within the clinical asset management system. The post holder will work closely with ward staff, Infection Prevention and Control, Estates, and other support services to ensure beds are maintained, cleaned, and returned to service in a timely manner.

This role will also support the introduction of standardised processes and governance arrangements for beds maintenance, contribute to audits and quality improvement activity, and escalate risks or issues appropriately. Ongoing training and competency development will be supported to enable progression of technical skills and contribution to a resilient, well‑functioning Beds Team.

## Person Specification

### Experience

**Essential**

- Be able to produce evidence of working in a mechanical engineering environment
- Experience of working from drawings and specifications without supervision

**Desirable**

- Experience of working within the NHS in a medical technology service environment.
- Awareness of medical equipment guidelines and legislation

### Qualifications

**Essential**

- Degree, HNC or equivalent in an appropriate mechanical engineering subject
- Hold a current, valid (non- provisional) FULL UK MANUAL driving licence

**Desirable**

- Member of appropriate professional body

### Skills, ability and knowledge

**Essential**

- Good knowledge of Microsoft products, able to enter data into equipment management database.
- Highly skilled in the use of mechanical workshop equipment independently
- Highly skilled in the use of hand held and power tools.

**Desirable**

- Knowledge of CAD systems.
- Knowledge of Human Physiology
